Going there with a full moon above the head, a head lamp is almost not needed. When you come there and hear the sound of the earth beneath you, you stay without words...

please see my comments on Maribio Tours as they are the ones that made this visit memorable. Could improve the vehicle comfort as the road is bad but the visit to the volcano is certainly worth the hassle.

Went up during sunset. Was some mist during the hike. When up we saw some guards that needed to be paid to go up to the rim of the volcano. Was included in our tour booked. At first we couldn't see a lot but after some patience we had the look to see the magma when it went dark. Hike back was completely in the dark so bring a good flash light!

The volcano is amazing. We did our tour with Hokana Tour company, it was a day trip. We were picked up at 2 and drove to the volcano and started the hike. Our group was all fit 20 somethings but our guide insisted on taking multiple breaks on the hike which is only about 35-40 minutes to the top. Then you see the volcano in day time which is cool in itself but the magma is not visible. Then my least favorite part, killing time for 3-4 hrs while you wait for it to get dark enough to see the magma. Walk to the tree, then walk to the seismograph then walk to the lookout haha. Then it gets dark and you walk to the volcano to see magma. MAGMA! And you are excited again. We walked back down to the car with headlamps and had a good dinner cooked by the locals of the volcano. We got bacl to leon around 9:00 pmIt is a must see but I do wish it was a little bit shorter!

Telica volcano is a beautiful natural landmark and especially the evening tour for sunset and lava watching is a great experience. Get in touch with any travel agency in Leon, pretty much everybody has Telica tour in their offer.

amazing trek up to the crater, but you need to be fairly fit.its a torch light trek down. The journey up to it is very bumpy go with a guide who will take you in a 4 wheel drive vehicle

The sunset tour takes 7 hours. Bring food, not just a snack. Though an hour on that road to and back doesn't make one want to eat. It's very windy on top so brig a jacket. It's not a difficult hike but it's not easy either.

Well worth doing. It cost $40 for the tour. We went with Tierra Tours. I had read about the road being bumpy and wondered if it really was that bad- it definitely is! It takes over an hour to get up the volcano in the car. It's a dirt road and very rocky especially towards the end. You get thrown around the place a lot! Once you get out of the car, it's about an hours walk to get up to the volcano crater. It's an ok walk though- nothing too difficult or strenuous! The crater is very cool to see. You get great views and can see the steam coming out of the volcano. You can lie on your stomach to peer over the edge and look inside be crater. After having some time at the crater, you walk to the other side to see the sunset. It's a short walk. Sunset was lovely! It gets windy- a jacket would come in handy. Just something light. Then after that it's back to the crater again to see the lava as it gets dark. This was cool to see. Then you walk back down with flashlights. If you don't have a flashlight they give you one. Wear good shoes for walking and bring some snacks. We were given a little juice and some cookies but you may want more. The tour left at 2pm and we returned at about 8pm. It was brilliant, definitely well worth doing. A great experience!

We visited Telica via the night tour offered by Tierra Tours. Yes, it's a rough ride for a portion of the trip and it's a steep hike up to get to the rim of the volcano, but well worth the effort in every way. To enjoy a stunning sunset, then as night fell to peer into the volcano to see and hear magma is all a very unique experience. Couple of tips: bring a bandana/towel and soak with water to cover your nose and mouth since the volcanic gases can be quite intense when the wind shifts. Also, be sure to wear closed toe hiking shoes, which is recommended due to the loose lava rock on the trail. This was one of the hiking highlights of our trip.

Telica Tours took us to the Telica Volcano to see the volcano and also the sunset from the top. This was our first encounter with a active volcano and we are so happy we got to see this.Yes, there is a 1,5 hour drive (one way) on a VERY, VERY bumpy road and then a 45 min walk up the last part of the volcano. But all in all I think it was worth it! It cost us $40 /pp with Telica Tours.

The trek up this short volcano seems easy. Do go at night as you can see the magma from the rim.. Always take headlamps to guide you down the very slippery, rocky path. If you are pressed for time and arrive in Leon in the morning. Set out to his place with a 4 wheel drive and driver at 2PM. this will get you in just the right time to view the beautiful sunset and them take a trip back to the rim to watch the magma at night.

You drive most of the way up on a very rough road. Not good if you back problems and not recommended. The last part is about 40 mins on foot on a moderately easy climb up but you need a torch when you come down. The lava is 200m down and you get glimpses of it but lots of gasses! You need to peer over the edge by laying on your belly. The sound the volcano makes is worth the trip but don't expect to see a cauldron of hot red lava.

I did this hike with Tiera Tours and we had Alex as our guide. The tour consists of and hour and a half drive along a bumpy dirt road, a 40 minutes hike (no skill required) to the crater, a 20 minute walk around the mountain to watch the sunset, then back around to the crater to see the lava and the a return hike in the dark and a drive back. The sunset view is amazing! As are the views of the surrounding volcanoes and farm land. The lava glows different all the time but in the dark it was pretty clear to see it. The hike down in the dark is amazing. We were lucky and had a clear night so it was a star gazing paradise. The guide was nice and knowledgable and everyone on our trek was awesome. There is a guy at the top who sells beer if you are so inclined.

You can't beat staring down into the heart of an active volcano, the sound is amazing and the smell something to remember. And being Nicaragua you can stick your head right over the edge to try and get your pictures whilst someone offers you a beer! The climb up is about 40 minutes and not too hard, the hike down is more difficult by head torch / flashlight. Toughest part is the drive there which is 1hour 40 minutes out of Leon on some spectacularly bad road - if you've got a bad back give it a miss!We went with Tierra tours on a private transfer for 5 of us. You soon end up in convoy and there were 40+ of us at the crater rim so waste of money really. Apart from that, a great experience.

the hike was fairly easy, once at the top the view is second to none, seeing molten lava brewing inside the volcano was awesome.
