After catching the johnson bus from managua the boat from rama and leaving bluefeilds I reached pearl lagoon the 2nd largest freshwater lagoon in the world !! Its bio diversity and marine population in a very stunning part of the world is breathtaking and so colourful . The kayaks were equipped with safety floatation and in good condition this part of the world is so beautiful I kayaked with a girl yolanda i had met in rama for hours and hours the guide was so intelligent and spoke cajun patois english with good knowledge of american and naturally spanish along with mesquite and some other dialects of indian languages rama in the area . Passing the dorys ( whole tree boats) with locals almost submerged filled with fishing shrimp and vegetables fish was a memory i will never forget . The turtles so big rose up and breathed right next to us through clear water and flying fish passed with in inches In the few hours we kayaked about half day we encountered thousands of bait fish being chased and birdlife everywhere Totally out there happiness and very reasonable if changing the dollar to nicaraguan money Remember this part of the world has very little at times and that is the best way to live here sub tropical very hot and wet and stunning . Im so glad i gave some money to some good people and next time I WILL TAKE MY GO RPO CAMERA WATERPROOF IT IS SO PICTURESQUE AND BEAUTIFUL
We had seen 8 or 9 kayaks alongside of a home across the road from the Best View Restaurant (which is at the end of the waterfront street, past Queen Lobster & Casa Ullrich.) We didn't see a sign advertising kayak rentals so we asked around and quickly found the fellow who owns & rents them. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the boats were Prijon Seayaks which were in excellent condition. We launched next to the house which is on a point at the extreme north east end of Pearl Lagoon. We started out heading east, into the breeze and toward a very small island. At the island we turned right (heading south) and paddled around the larger island which is in front of the town. When we came to the end of the island, we crossed the channel and paddled close to shore along Pearl Lagoon's interesting and colorful waterfront. We paddled back to the starting point continued on around the point and part of the way to the village of Raitipura before turning back to return the kayaks. This was an excellent way to to spend an hour or two getting a different view and sense of the area.
Kayaking in the Pearl Cays is exhilarating. Time spent in a beautiful island paradise was priceless. The Kayaking was both challenging and relaxing depending on where I chose to go.The kayaks were first class and the guide was knowledge of the area. It was really a special treat to get the chance to visit these islands.
beautiful experience surrounded by nature and friendly local people,if i could have the chance to come back i would do it again.
