People who visit Mysore think Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hill, Mysore zoo and Brindavan gardens are the prime tourist spots. Having visited all of them and Datta Peetham, I would say that if you want a spiritual experience in an aesthetic setting, Datta Peetham is where you should be. Datta Peetham, which captures the granduer of Mysore palace through its architecture, the divinty of Chamundi Hills through its numerous temples, the beauty of Brindavan gardens through exclusive gardens such as the bonsai garden and the life of mysore zoo through the unique Shuka Vana is the best of the lot. When you visit mysore, don't miss this wonder on Nanjangud Road. If you want a refreshing experience, visit Datta ashrama, Mysore, which is a day's trip from Bangalore.
I have been to Avadhoota Datta Peetham 4 times over a period of ten years for about a total time of 11 months. Having traveled to different parts of the world, I love this place the most. Upon walking through the gates to this facility that was once jungle, the depth of silence cannot be missed. Clean, friendly and peaceful. So many attractions within. Many temples, the largest Bonsai Garden in India, SGS Vishwam Museum and Shuka Vana a massive in-flight bird sanctuary primarily for parrots. The towering jewel though is the 70 feet stature of Hanuman. This is one solid piece of granite hand carved to perfection.
Hey this is a very beautiful and peaceful, one stop place for you, if you are looking for - a beautiful Bonsai Garden (Kishkinda Bonsai garden), a Fan shaped big giant Auditorium (Nada Mantapam), a big aviary with lots of species of birds (Shukavana), a big bundle of Positive vibrations in the divine presence of Lord Balaji, Hanuman and Dattatreya. If you visit this place you would also have a great view of Chamundi Hills and is in the heart of the city. I love being to this place and definitely a must visit place for all ages of People. 71 feet Hanuman will be there to bless you as see from the main road.
I have visited Avadhoota Datta Peetham many times. Every time I go there, and soon as I start coming back, I keep thinking about how soon will I be visiting the Ashrama again. This is place where spirituality in its truest sense and form being practiced and preached. May it be through Kriya Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga or Vedanta, worship, music...and so on and so forth...every path for spiritual growth that one would like to follow is available and practiced here through the divine grace of Sri Swamiji. In addition, there are so many amazing establishments in the ashrama, that even a non-spirituality-seeking person can enjoy and enrich his/her experience in life. A beautiful museum, and amazing bonsai garden, and an unbelievably developed birds sanctuary with hundreds of birds from hundreds of species....are a few to note...that both adults and children can thoroughly enjoy. Sri Swamiji's unique creation called Nada Mantapa -- an auditorium -- frequently hosts music programs. Wow...what an amazing place! A heaven on earth, indeed! Thank you, Sri Swamiji.
I get a chance to visit Datta Peetham multiple times when i went to Mysore. Great Vedic and Holy vibrations across the Ashrama(People who live in Mysore used to call this as). The SGS Hospital attracted my attention very much where great service is done for the poor and needy also amazing research done by Sri Swamiji in the field of Meditation and Music. Nada Mantapam (A Music performance Hall) is a highlight to this Ashrama. Vedic chantings will welcome you throughout the day, Bonsai garden is also one of the interesting place here which you cannot see anywhere in India; such a collection they have. In my recent I visited the Datta Peetham and i get a chance to step in to the new home for Feather Friends in Ashrama which is fabulous... the name itself is unique.. ShukaVana a beautiful aviary with a Rehabilitation center too; which you will never find across the India. Its a Paradise of Parrots and amazing thing is, all these parrots chants god names and wishes you by saying "Jaya Guru Datta" in their cute and Sweet voice. Those who search for a real place for Harmony and Peace.. I would say this is your destiny.. I will highly recommend anyone going to Mysore must visit this place!! very near from Local Railway Station and Bus Stand too. Happy Darshan.

I visited Dattapeetham multiple times. Once you are inside, visitors experience a tranquil ambiance. The resonance of Vedic chanting relaxes the mind and stirs the soul. There are may attractions to see at the ashrama, It is the host of biggest bonsai garden, Aviary in the country, Universal prayer hall, School for Veda and Sanskrit studies, giant single stone Hanuman statue and many more. A unique feature of the place is the Dina Stupa or 365 stone pillars that are spread across the ashram. They signify the importance of each day in a calendar year. In all this Ashrama is aliasing world by examples.
I have been to this place several times in quest of spirituality. First off its well located away from city near chamundi hills, second the inner ambiance is amazing, they have all to satisfy one's spiritual thirst. Only a true divine master can create such a holy place. You will forget the world while you stay there, there are so many spiritual activities done by this center, you can choose your liking or you can just relax and do nothing, just enjoy the calmness/peace of the area. This center also has world renowned bonsai garden, and amazing bird aviation center that you will enjoy and add to your inner retreat. A very unexpected surprise, and a definite must see. You have to visit Dattapeetham, and honestly, one day is not enough. We were amazed to see a stunning parrott filled rehabilitation center (aviary), an unique collection of bonsai in a scenic garden, an architecturally amazing musical auditorium, a museum, and a temple. While you are there, you don't have to worry about food as meals are served at no charge. Enjoy your visit!
