mt hibok-hibok

Firstly you should be aware that the weather changes in an instant on mt hibok, so even when it looks like a clear day and the forecast says the same as in our case, by the time you get up there it could be cloudy and raining as in our case.It took us 2hr 45mins to get to the top and the same to get down with 30mins at the peak to relax.So 6hrs round trip.Was it worth it......no not in my opinion.Im saying that having climbed volcanos in Java though which are amazing.The view at the top is not worth the energy it takes to get up there.The view on the way up of white island is however very nice but still does not make this tire some trek worth it.Just my opinion guys

The mother of the many volcanoes within this small island province. It has erupted sometime early fifties, according to the people in the geophysical laboratory we visited if i got it right. I was surprised for the information that the small island is the home of many volcanoes. With these information, it connected to my question about the blackish sandy beaches around the main island excluding the white beach at the far south of the island. Even then Camiguin is still one of the best places to visit.

If I am not mistaken it is one of the highest peaks in the whole of Camiguin. It exploded on the early 20th Century and it was devastating. From far of the mainland Mindanao, you can see this Volcano clearly. situated along its body is Ardent Hot Spring which warm waters are truly refreshing.

I likes it then when there was no concrete road where you had to climb by motor bike and fall occasionally. Still nice now but easier to go to.

I just went up the Mt hibok hibok today, I'm exausted, tired and loads of body pain I can't describe the feeling it's just tiring.You wouldn't get scared how steep the trail is going up, but suprisingly struggle, going down, it's indeed one in a million experience you totally need food loads of water and gloves! I had bought motorcycle gloves where you can stick out your fingertips still. It's USEFUL, when you climb up! You grab stone edges and pull yourself. Use it to hold on to trees and branches when it's to steep, wild plants with thorns are annoying. Use gloves and long sleeves to protect you from scratches.At the end of the trail, hot springs await. Worth it! Our guide name is BARRY, amazingly a good guide and he did go beyond his job today. He gave me his shoes and hike barefooted for my feet comfort. My feet was swollen no chance of walking. He assist me along the way even gave me his water. That's remarkable! Find him he will make sure you'll finish it safely.

...if you end your ascent in the crater. Go to the ridge, there's a viewpoint towards White island and the rest of Camiguin. Insist on being guided by a licensed guide - they charge the same, but have a radio for emergency.

Had a really nice experience had a really nice time on camiguin. Climbing hibok hibok is an amazing experience. Really nice guide to have is Alberto A Galgo, which you call on the phone number 09262523911. A honest and friendly guy that speaks good english and knows his way well on hibok hibok. His house adress is Baylao airport Mambajao, very easy too reach.

When people hear that the Hibok Hibok is "only" a bit over 1300 meters, most of them go "oh, but that's easy".But I've seen hikers, who've done a lot higher mountains, come down from Hibok Hibok with a grimace on their face, telling all about how they underestimated this climb.It's a beautiful climb, but very steep at times, and very slippery at times as well. Crawling on all fours, pulling yourself up from tree roots or branches... It's all part of this experience.It's not easy, it's quite demanding, actually. And if you're in good physical condition it'll take you about 3 hours up and 3 hours down.The view from the top over White Island, or over Camiguin, is gorgeous (provided that it's clear and there's not a cloud hanging around the top).Recommended!

Let me start by saying that if you are not physically fit, DO NOT DO THIS HIKE. It is the hardest hike I have personally done.The reason I only gave it a 3 is because I didn't think the view was worth the effort. It took us about 7 hours with a guide. Much of the trail is overgrown with plants so be aware that if you wear a tshirt and shorts, you will get cut.

We started at 6am, at sea level in Yumbing market, with our guide - a 61 year old local guy (think his name was Goning - Ronaldo's father in-law) who has been hiking up the volcano since 1975. We took the "lake" route up which takes you right into the crater, this is the more difficult way as there are a few up and down sections before you reach the top. The climb was hard work, and took us 4 hours to get to the top, but once you get there it is incredibly rewarding! What a view and a feeling of achievement! Then the return was down to Ardent Hot Spring resort - not an easy descent that's for sure! We did this at the beginning of May and it wasn't too hot - the jungle canopy protects you from the heat most of the time.Wear good shoes, bring more than 4L of water and lunch is definitely a must. You should be relatively fit to do this hike.

Best to arrange a guide to help you find your way to the top. Also consider the weather as you don't want to be stuck with your head in the clouds and no view at the top.We left very early morning, to ease the tough trek which takes at least 6 hrs round trip. There are no short cuts or easy ways up and you'll need to prepare food and plenty of drink to ease your travel.Boots and sturdy clothing are a must and I took a change of clothing i.e. t-shirt n socks as it gets very sweaty!Worth the effort.

The guide told us that we could only do an Ardent-Ardent route since we have another plan later that day, and they estimated that we would finish up around 3pm. I guess they underestimated us, we finished the tresk around 5hrs. 3up2down, we should have asked for the traverse instead :) the summit on our visit was very windy and no views whatsover, and we decided to call it a day. we left at 630am.

Cons: Guide fee is expensive - standard rate is 1,200 PHP whether you are alone or in a group. Environmental fee of 200 PHP. Total of 1,400 PHP for the trek. No water source along the trail.Pros: Good view if you do the traverse route (jump off is at Ardent area - go down on Barangay Yumbing). Good work-out-- assault mostly on the first part to get to the summit. Diverse flora and fauna. They have a crater lake that looks like Lake Venado of Mt. Apo - which has a mystical feel and beautiful.Note: Better to climb 4 AM - 5 AM to get a good clearing/ view, as it can get foggy.Bring rain coat. Approximate trekking time is 6-8 hours. Caution on Cogon Grass as it can injure you if you are not careful.

Can't talk about the experience of climbing on top. Although I can only hear good remarks.Otherwise, the view, from the town, from white island, even from the plane before landing...is what Mt. Hibok hibok fascinating to me.It gave us water abundance, GREEN and fertile soil.

It can be seen from the White Island. Its majestic and stunning figure can't seem to be as destructive as it was more than 50 years ago. At it's foot where Ardent hot spring is located gives the tourist relaxing dip during its cold season. The lushness that covers its cone tells that it's really protected and preserved.
