Seen other awesome falls in Mindanao. The distance to the falls is quite a bit of distance from the viewing deck and you're unable to go close to experience the full force of the water. Total fee is php45 including a short ride to the falls if not mistaken.
Maria Christina falls is a nice place to visit great place to take some pictures of some falls and if the water is flowing there's actually twins phone from the mountains enjoy the view enjoy the people and have a great time
It was a bit hard to get there and you can only take pictures at the building since you can not trek to it.
These towering almost 100 metre falls are easily reached by taxi or jeepney from Iligan City and have long been harnessed for hydroelectricity. We had to provide identification to obtain entry then our taxi drove tge 1.5 kilometres to the employee cooperative run cafe with its clean toilets and falls viewing. Entry was P35 each at te security gate.An icecream at the cafe was P25.Including a visit to Tinago Falls, our three hour 20 minute round trip by taxi cost a reasonable P800. The Maria Cristina falls are oen daily 0900 to 1600 while Tinago Falls are completely natural with 24 hour, seven day a week access.
If it's your first time in Iligan City, visiting Maria Cristina Falls is a must. The height and power of the falls is truly awesome to behold. It is accessible through both private and public transport. If hopping off one of the Buru-un bound jeepneys from the city (fare is Php 12), the entrance is a short 50m hike where each visitor pays a Php 35 entrance fee. To hitch a ride to the falls, the park provides a shuttle ride for another Php 30.
... It is easy to access and having of comfortable environment... It is nearest to, restau..., beach, shopping, and availablity of transport at any time...
Maria Cristina falls has always been that --- majestic! the road up is winding, and you really need a private car to get here. Go up here on Sundays, as it is the schedule for public viewing.
I thought I would never ever be able to see this beauty that I will only be seeing this on postcards and from the cover of my old grade school book... But when I went to Iligan, I can't pass the chance of not seeing this majestic falls and it's all worth it. There's a minimal entrance fee. And you have to have a car or any sort of vehicle to get there because it's still far from the entrance gate where you pay the entrance fee. But if you like walking, then I don't think you will mind the long walk.
Ma. Cristina falls, what can i say. Coming from Iligan, it still takes my breath away everytime i see it. Ive seen so many falls in the my home country, the Philippines, nothing has yet surpassed the beauty of ma. Cristina falls. Advisable time to see the falls is around 11 am on sundays, they usually fully open the damn at those times. You will see the full power of the water. There is a park at the grounds, with tables and chairs. But you must bring food though because there is not much food avaible to buy. If you have a private car, it will be easier to go there. Or, you ride a buruun line jeep. Ask the driver to drop you off at ma. Cristina, walk a little down to the main gate, pay the entrance fee (i forgot how much, P25, i think) and then ride the buggy, also with a minimum fee.
Huge waterfall, it's worth passing by if you are in Iligan. Great for picture taking, and there were a lot of activities to do, though we just came to take a look at the waterfalls.
Maria Cristina Falls. One of the Philippines most beautiful scenic spots, a geography lesson in elementary grade, fifty years ago, I saw it for the first time last July, 2014. Now I am truly MC "waterfallstruck". Didn't matter that there's a concrete edifice right beside it (the National Power Corporation power plant) which elicited complaints of nature's beauty diminished, Not so. Maria Cristina is the grand dame, well thanks largely to heavy rains days before, The waters gushed and gurgled in gigantic, wild abandon. Brown, falling leaves gaily pirouetted in the breeze. Proud and tall are the many trees; birds. butterflies in perfect flight, ensemble cast of nature's creatures. Iligan, the city is another story. The once upon a time steel mills and cement plants look abandoned. Sadly they are, our cab driver/guide said so. Wide roads, the efficascent oil factory(menthol-camphor massage oil), a slew of medium-sized local businesses, a remarkable academic community and the best tasting kabug, (the local suman or rice cake)in the region, affable and friendly Iliganons, a more accessible, modern airport, hopefully will catapult the province back to its industrial stature.
Iligan is known as the city with many waterfalls. I went to Maria Christina Falls with my wife and in laws. The scenery is beautiful, with lovely greenery of the different varieties of trees, with the waterfall being the main attraction. The ground level has a shop and covered outside seating for the family. The waterfall itself is an amazing sight, with the surrounding trees just adding to its beauty. You can view it from the lower level or top floor. If you love the outdoors and appreciate the beauty of nature, then this a must see for any first time visitors to Iligan. The Philippines is a warm place and the people are very friendly to tourists, you will love it there.
Honestly they have to improve their Zoo, the animals are in poor condition and it was really expensive. And to think it's the falls that supplied electricity to the whole Mindanao island. Well at least until the 1970's. But you know getting to the falls itself from the gate is a long walk. The view along the way was great with all the tall trees and wold orchid along the pavement. I so love that wild monkeys who wait for tourists to feed them. But seriously with all the attractions made up recently (Zip Line and Wall Climbing), was a sore to the place.
We visited the falls as a group at the end of April 2014. The falls cannot fail to impress, their sheer power is breathtaking. However our visit to the zoological park was both shocking an appalling. The treatment of the animals was disgusting, in particular a sole monkey chained around its ankles with only a tiny span with which to manoeuvre. A visitor threw a large rock at the monkey who was visibly distressed. There was no warden around to help or ensure the safety of the animal. I wonder how many times a day that monkey has to endure such cruel treatment by visitors at the hands of the staff?Crocodiles were left in an area that had visibly encountered a recent landslide, impacting on their enclosure. This had been left, not cleared up, and again I wondered whether any crocodiles were killed by the poor safety of the environment? There used to be butterflies at the park, but apparently they had been killed during the most recent flooding in the area. I'm not sure that I believe this reason.I live in the UK but I would urge anyone in the local area who cares about animals to investigate this and feedback to staff at the park. Disgusting conditions such as these would not be allowed in the UK and shouldn't be allowed in the Philippines either.Upsetting.
I like how they made the place more tourist friendly and clean. There are also many activities to choose from such as wallclimbing and walking. It is a nice place to have a family picnic or group outings especially for the outdoorsy types.
