regional museum of archaeology

It's a small museum, but if you know Taino art (found on the Caribbean islands, also Puerto Rico), this has some important pieces.

A well stocked and maintained museum, focusing on the history of the D. Republic through the indigenous population and the Spanish conquerors. Most of this fascinating museum features the Taino people, their artifacts and especially strange (to us in C21st) customs.Ask to see the Higuero tree and the heavyweight gourds - very impressive !it is only a small entrance fee and definitely worth your time visiting.

This museum is behind the Catholic Church in the village of Altos de Chavon. It is very well air conditioned so staying a while to look at the displays and read the informative signs (in English and Spanish) is very doable. The museum is impressive in its appearance inside with museum quality display cases and signage. I found the display cases detailing the peopling of the island the most informative as my information in that area was lacking. Flints and stone tools, typical of ancient peoples were on display as well as a hollowed tree trunk used as a boat for their voyages. Even the more familiar story of the European explorers (like Columbus) who came to this island was interesting. Allow at least a half an hour if not more in order to read each information card and to examine the artifacts in display cases.

This was a very educational and interesting exhibit about the original inhabitants of the Dominican. The Taino people. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the artifacts and reading. a must stop in while in Altos de Chavon.

If you find yourself in Altos de Chavon and you have any interest in the geological formation of jewels or just want to pick up some jewels cultivated from the local areas this small but nice museum is worth a stop.

The museum is tucked away in Altos de Chavon, but worth the look (behind the chapel). The docent was interesting and informative. Programming for children. Gift Shop. Be generous in your donation!

Adorei as explicações do guia responsável pelo museu. Ele é detalhista, atencioso e um pouco prolixo, mas é faz seu trabalho com tanto carinho que eu realmente gostei. O museu é pequeno mas possui muitos objetos Taínos, que são os nativos da República Dominicana, que foram erradicados pelos exploradores espanhóis. Dica: no centro do museu há um pátio onde fica uma árvore chamada Higuero que tem uma fruta extremamente pitoresca: tem o tamanho uma melancia mas dá em árvore alta. Pela explicação do guia, a fruta é como uma cabaça, os Tainos consumiam a polpa e a casca era usada para transportar água e servir de cumbuca. O museu não é cobrado, mas para entrar na propriedade chamada Casa de Campo, onde se localiza a cidadezinha de Altos de Chavón, onde o museu fica, é preciso pagar. Paguei 25 dólares por pessoa para passar o dia na propriedade, que na verdade é um condomínio de casas de alto padrão, com inúmeros campos de golfe, shopping, marina e a cidade de Altos de Chavón.

C'est un petit musee qui se trouve dans la residence privée de casa de campo.Il faut payer 25 USD pour rentrer dans la residence fermée puis encore payer pour entrer dans le musée.Il est tres bien tenu et tres propre.C'est a faire si on est deja a Altos de Chavon.Sinon, evidemment le musée de l'homme dominicain a santo domingo est beaucoup plus complet mais moins bien tenu et plus loin.

Museu muito rico em cultura local e super bem estruturado, bem localizado e de fácil acesso ao público.Vale o passeio.

No coz, dla niezainteresowanych archeologia, muzeum nie sprawi ogromengo wrazenia. Malutkie, kameralne, z kilkoma zaledwie eksponatami, wiekszosc stanowia edukacyjne opisy dotyczace dawniejszej historii tubylczych Indian.

Me gustó sobretodo la explicación rigurosa de su guia y la exposición de las piezas que aún conservan.

Localizado na Aldeia de Altos de Chavon, Na Casa de campo (ver o meu comentário sobre os Altos de Chavon).Pequeno Museu arqueológico com uma bela colecção e com artefactos muito interessantes.Vale a pena a visita. Fica mesmo a mão de semear.
