The back windward side of Stocking Island offers one of the most easily accessible quite retreats in the Bahamas. If you come in via ferry (or dock your boat near Chat and Chill) it is only a 30 minute walk to find peace and quiet.
A must for Conch salad, made fresh. The Conch is taken fresh out of the water and prepared in front of you. You can feed the Stingrays the Conch scraps, awesome experience!
I was speechless with how breathtaking this place was. It was part of our excursion and we had the time of our lives. So pristine to see this little piece of paradise.
All of the guidebooks urge travelers to visit Stocking Island, so we did. The ride over on the water taxi ($12 round trip) afforded an up-close view of yachts in the harbor, as well as nice views of the George Town waterfront. The island has some spectacular beaches on its far side, but that requires a short hike, including the fording of a narrow inlet, which, at high tide, involves soaking up to the waist. If you skip that walk, you're largely confined to experiencing a lively scene at ChatNChill and its related waterfront park (volleyball, rope swing, beach, picnic tables under the pines). I don't regret taking the time to visit Stocking Island, but I had much more satisfying experiences by driving to isolated beaches on Exuma.
A small island just minutes away from George Twon, this is a tropical paradise. The temperatures are warm, the weather was spectacular, and the views amazing. We hiked, we swam, we snorkelled blue holes, and we lounged around a funky, fun place called the Chat N Chill for good food and interesting people. Cruisers and boaters from all over congregate here in the pristine and calm waters.
you don't have to be a sailor to enjoy the island.....easy access by ferry for us land lubbers. Swimming, drinking, eating and meeting really nice folk. Priceless!
Defiantly worth the trip once. Can't walk all around the island very easy. Not allong beach atleast as it gets rocky and deep. But plenty to do and see for afternoon if you take the water taxi over. $12 round trip seems ok and they run often. Chat n chill was neat and try the fresh conch salad and feed the sting Rays the scraps as he is cutting it up! Prices are fair once on the island. Glad we went.
our Capt. Steven Cole very nice and informativeHad no dislikes that I can recall. Wished it was longer so we could have time to eat at the Chat and Chill
Stocking is a charming island with beautiful beaches on both the harbor and the Atlantic side. Chat N Chill is Soggy Dollar's cousin (Jost Van Dyke) with a great Sunday pig roast. St Francis Resort has a fantastic restaurant and path to the Atlantic shore which opens up to a long stretch of beach. This is a sailor's hangout and easy access by water ferry from Great Exuma. Don't pass up a visit to this island if you're in the area.
It is the place to be on Sunday. BBQ, fresh conch salad, stingrays and and short adventure to the Atlantic side for a huge ocean surprise.
Went to stocking island on Sunday for the pig roast at Chat and Chill. The food was amazing. We just hung around the beach feeding the sting rays and drinking kalik. Later we swam across a skinny channel of the bay over to the atlantic side. I couldn't believe how warm the water was. We did some body surfing and had the best time ever. If you go to Exuma, you have to body surf in the atlantic.
Great place to relax and do some hiking, exploring and swimming! Stop by St Francis for lunch and drinks!
after a week of empty beautiful beaches, I had the need to find people. Crowd place... nice beach... it is worth for an afternoon.
If you are in Exuma , you must go to Stocking island. You can easily catch a water taxi from the dock for 12 dollars a person return. Go to have a conch salad ... the yummiest. And hike over to Atlantic side. If you are not a strong swimmer I would not swim on Atlantic side.. there is a reef and strong undertow. The bay side is calm and if you walk around the rocks past the main beach there is another beautiful beach and a great snorkeling area.
Just a fun place with a beautiful beach. Went to look for shells. was able to walk quite aways around the island at low tide (which was fun and beautiful) but alas no shells, such a disappointment. Rewarded myself with a fine burger at Chat and Chill.
