We didn't know how hard this one would be but decided to give it a try. So glad we did as the views from the top were breathtaking. You have to stop and take some time to really enjoy the scenery. It's beautiful. The hike wasn't bad at all, we slowly realized all the trails we went on were geared for tourists. Paved trails, well marked and whatnot. We didn't get to do The Top of El Yunque or Radio Tower but this one suffices for a great view anyway.

The Mt. Britton lookout tower, on a small peak, is a great hike. 45 minutes up, less down. 3, 088 ft. high. It is a wonderful overlook of the El Yunque Rain Forest, on a clear day you can see forever! On a cloudy day, with a little wind, the clouds are swirling around you. Great experience, well worth the hike up. There are 3 covered rest stations on the way up.You walk through the Sierra Palm forest as you climb. The path itself is paved, perhaps narrow but well maintained. If you wished to continue up to the top of El Yunque the path continues from here ( about another hour up).

switch backs make it less steep but it still quite a climb. very good trail of cement with rocks,so it doesn't get too slippery. lovely gurgling streams, along the, way. great hike with nice views from the tower. when you reach the road near the top, go a little way and then turn right onto path marked "wildlife viewing" ( it doesn't mention tower). As with other trails in el Yunque ,go early and you might have it all,to yourself!

Straight up the mountain for about a mile. Trail was in good shape and not many hikers. The Tower provides a terrific view of a huge part of the Island. The vegetation and wildlife were not much but a gooday hike anyway.

This tower is similar to the other one in the park. It takes a bit of a climb to get there but didn't take us too long. We climbed to the top of the tower and snapped a few pictures of the view. It's a similar view to the other tower as well, just higher up.

Mt Britton Trail - parking available in designated area. This trail will lead you to the Mt Britton Observatory tower. The trail is medium to high difficultly level. It will take 30 mins up to the tower and the whole trail is uphill. Coming down will take around 20-25 mins. Though it is a strenuous hike, the view from the tower is worth it. There is another trail to El Yunque peak from Mt Britton tower(we skipped it)) which could take one hour one side from Mt. Britton tower.

Well worth the hike up. We didn't realize the Mt. Britton Trail was rated as challenging until we were already down, but it really wasn't bad. My husband and I are not hikers, and we carried our 27 lb 18 month old son up and down the trail. It wasn't easy, but it was definitely doable. We originally had wanted to hike to the peak, but El Yunque trail was closed, and we couldn't figure out how to get up there. We chose this trail instead and were so glad that we did. Luckily, the weather was great, and we had excellent views. The trail is thin, but it's completely paved and well maintained. There are also three rain shelters on the way up. The trail itself is 0.8 mi. It doesn't take you directly to the tower, but it is only a short distance up from the end of the trail. Not sure what the views from the peak are like, but I can't imagine they are much better than the ones we had on Mt Britton tower.

It was a nice trail with waterfalls and there was a great view from the top of the tower. It was beautiful and worth the hike!

One thing about the hikes in El Yunque are that they are very well maintained and cemented throughout. Also most hikes are classified as 'Challenging' but I believe they have a different system of ranking as compared to the National Park System. What they say 'Challenging' is in fact 'Moderately difficult' when compared to rating for National Park System. The Mount Britton trail is classified as 'Challenging' but decided to take it anyways. Remember to pack a cap / poncho to prevent from rains and stay off the stones on the path when raining. The hike is mostly uphill and when the clouds hit the mountain you are walking through the clouds. The views from the top are awesome, constantly changing because of the changing cloud cover. Dont let a rainy day discourage you because the clouds clear up in an instant and the views are awesome when that happens. Totally worth the hike.45 mins one way on average pace.

This is a heck of a hike as it is mostly up hill. Beautiful scenery in the rainforest to get to this tower make it a good hike. We could not see much as there were clouds all around us but that was kind of cool as well.

We had bad luck with the view - the people leaving as we arrived told us it was great but unfortunately the clouds had just blown over. We waited for 15 minutes or so, but no luck. However, the hike up through the forest was still pretty and we enjoyed it. The tower has an interesting look with orange moss growing all over it. The hike up from the road is not bad - somewhat steep in spots but paved the entire way and beautiful. When you hit the gravel road, follow it up a little further to the fork, and go right another quarter mile or so to reach the tower.

Sitting in the car just after the walk back down. Hike up isn't crazy but not easy either. I couldn't imagine a better viewing point though. One of those you really just can't capture on film and instead let it sink into your minds eye for later recall. Go!

It's one of the most cozy trails. Once you park your car, start going up. The trail is pretty easy. They have a path with cement which makes it easier to climb. Once you finish with the path, you'll get to an open area with a fork. If you go to the right, you'll go to Torre Britton. Once you get there, go all the way up. The view is amazing. If by any chance you get to the top and it's cloudy, you may not be able to see anything because you will be in the clouds (literally) just wait a couple of minutes, the wind blows pretty hard and the clouds will move. once the move, you'll see a whole new world!!

We hiked along a concrete trail through the rainforest. The vegetation is beautiful along with some great views! However, sometimes the area is foggy so the views are not as good, but area is still great to visit. You may see some unique flowers, like wild orchids. We also saw a bioluminescent slug at the top of the tower! This is a must-see in Puerto Rico!

Jenaro45

If you want the best view of El Yunque (rain forest), you must visit Mt. Britton. It is a short hike and is well worth it.
