When we were there in February, it was a calm beach with lifeguards. It was a weekend and there was lots of activity.
We visited on Christmas Day, so the parking lot was closed. We followed the lead of others who seemed to know what they were doing and were able to park on the side of the road. The first beach we visited (near Manati) was tiny with no facilities and lots of stray dogs. This beach looked a lot better, and there were some facilities, but we did not use the facilities. The parking lot is a good size. We came mainly for getting a little sun, and we got more than we bargained for in that area! We did see at least one stray dog on our way in, so we don't know if it's just the season for strays at the beach or year round.
I have been going to this beach since I was a little kid. Always loved this beach, is relaxing and a great place to hang also the camping area is awesome now is better taken care of since it became private. I recommend it!
Beautiful waters!! It's kept clean! Go snorkeling by the rocks, a lot of beautiful and colorful fish!!
We were recommended this beach by a few of the staff at the Hacienda del Mar we were staying at. This is a great family, child friendly beach with everything needed for a good safe time. We found this site before going out and it did a great job detailing out what we should expect. http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/cerro-gordo-beach/Overall, if you're in the Dorado area, great place to check out.
I live half a mile away and it's a beautiful beach. Like all the beaches in the Atlantic side of Puerto Rico there are days where the water is clear and flat and other days rough depending on the weather conditions. If you are looking for peace the months to go are August-March . The summer months I visit other beaches in the area like Los Tubos and Manati because I prefer peace on the beach. The summer months get crazy and crowded. If the water isn't rough there is good snorkeling but this beach like all beaches can get dangerous if the waters are rough the good thing there are very good lifeguards who work there.
Been on PR so many times already .. This was the first time i tried the Local Beaches .. one of then Cerro Gordo Beach .. the water was not clear at all.. good for families, kids and others.. this locations have access through a private parking (free on weekends till 6pm) and also access through a local road right next to the beach.. a few stores .. semi pricy .. too many locals .. very loud.. beach was semi clean.. not white clean sand.. we stayed for many 1 or 2 hours .. weather was very hot so the water was warm .. = ) try Puerto Rican Islands they are the best .. enjoy it!
The Cerro Gordo beach is our home beach. We have been going to this beach facility for over 8 years. The facility has a big beach area with a large parking area. However for the price you pay to enter (per vehicle fee depending on the size of it) it should be in better shape. The shower areas don'thave any water and they have not been working for a long time. This is one of the most important amenities needed after leaving the beach particularly if you are going with kids. The sand area is pretty spacious perfect for kids to play. In the summer weekends and holidays it can get really crowded. The recommendation is to go in the morning early.
clean, never overcrowded, many palmtrees and trees in general provide shade for when you want.... everything you want in a beach. the best!
Cerro Gordo is very spacious and offers space for different type of activities everyone can enjoy. The beach is very nice and never has waves that are too big. In the summer it is very clear, great for snorkeling and scuba diving. In the winter there is an area in the right side of the beach that is good for body boarding while the rest of the beach is great to relax with no big waves. The is a camping area, a mountain biking trail that is also good for hiking and amazing sights from that same hill. There is plenty of space to walk across sand and areas with cool rocks. Also a spacious parking. When visiting, please keep the beach clean!
WOW! I don't know if we were there on a perfect day, or what, but I was completely blown away by how awesome this beach was. Parking lot was huge, so we could park close and didn't have to walk far (because it wasn't full). Sand was soft, enough trees to provide shade, but we could also sit in the sun, water was clear and beautiful (as nice as Vieques or Culebra on the day we were there, in my opinion). Good facilities--lifeguard, picnic tables, bathrooms, showers, snack area. And what I really love about is the short hiking path off to the right that takes you up to the cliffs--PHENOMENAL views!! There's also camping areas up there if you want to stay. And even better, this place is pretty close to San Juan. I loved it! It's one of my new favorite beaches.
