agawa indian crafts & the canadian carver

A great place to stop and shop! Owners Gerry and June Demers are super friendly and always willing to help you out in the stores, and their dogs are fantastic too!

We really enjoyed looking at the displays and items in the Agawa Indian Crafts & Canadian Carver stores. They had a varied supply of merchandise with very reasonable prices. Many of the hand carved items were beautiful. If I could go back to one place to do some shopping, I would return to these stores.

This place has something fur everyone! Original wood carvings, typical tourist souvenirs, a liquor store, gas pumps, and incredible ice cream! We love the atmosphere, the friendly staff, the variety of works of art for sale, make sure to stop here!

Lots to look at here while you're stretching your legs during a long drive. A real variety of stuff -- from things that seem really authentic and others that you see in many other places. I really liked the bamboo wind chimes hanging outside. Prices aren't bad. Bathrooms are excellent.

We needed gas and stopped here, for a small place there is a lot to do. Ice cream for the kids, smoked fish and lots of crafts to look at or buy. The gas attendant was very knowledgable about the local area and beaches too. Make a stop it's a welcoming break from the road.Clean bathrooms too.

They have fuel which is harder to find along this stretch of road. A great rest stop. Lots or quality goods mixed with affordable knockoffs. Food and wood carvings and things for kids. I love this place.

I picked apart the fish and hand fed my husband while he drove. So delicious, not too messy.The family who smoked them does an awesome job- Perfect.This is my third time stopping, love it everytime.

When ever we visit Canada we stop its a nice ride along the way there is a road side park that has some falls that are beatiful then when you get to the wood carver there are some of the neatest gifts. You get the T-shirts but there are different jewlerys, and wood items plus there are indian blankets. they have gas for cars and they do have food too. Who knows if its a bit cloudy you might even be lucky to see some moose.

On our way to Pancake Bay, my sister kept passing by all the signs for the Agawa store. Obviously their advertising has paid off because we were compelled to stop, and we were both glad. First off, as an American traveling in Canada, it was nice that this place had WiFi, because it enabled me the chance to check in with my family while in Canada. The store itself is a little on the pricey side of things, but it has a lot of neat knickknacks and food items that you can purchase. The lady working the cash register was very nice as well. Since the cashier's area is so large, she was able to talk to my sister and I as we browsed, and really recommended some nice stuff- I definitely do not regret purchasing the Maple Butter! There is also an ATM there which accepted American cards as well, and one of the other workers of the store was helpful when the machine got a little confused trying to read my card (though the machine had no problem with my sister's).Overall, it was a great little shop to stop and see- particularly because it's out in the middle of nowhere, and it's a nice little place to regroup with civilization after driving on the highway for so long. It being right next to Pancake Bay is also helpful. Really neat place and neat things inside.

This store is actually a small group of shops easily accessible on hwy 17. The main gift store has everything that all other Canadian gift/craft stores have along the route, but with the largest selection and all in one place, plus unique items as well. Clothes for all, moccasins, kids gifts, food stuff, local art -- it's easy to find something for everyone on the list. T-shirts with jokes about bears were funny and we nature lovers got a kick out of them. The staff is helpful, they also sell gas, and they have wifi (great place to check in because wireless in this geography is scarce). I can see how this place is a destination for many. But there's so much more...The Canadian Carver store has hand-carved wooden objects including furniture, animal figures, and toys. Even people who tend to wait in the car will enjoy a stop into this store.There's also a place for ice cream, and tables with woven rugs.If you have a dog, there's an area specifically for dog-walking, too.On my travels in Ontario, I did not see another store with the broad selection, deep inventory, and genuinely local crafts that Agawa has. The place can be pretty busy with cars, but the stores are large so there's plenty of room for uncrowded shopping, or browsing to stretch your legs from the car ride.
