mac johnson wildlife area

The Mac Johnson Wildlife Area is a fantastic little place where you can get away from it all. I've stopped in there at various timesof the year and it's all good. In winter you can bring your snowshoes or cross country skis and enjoy a little work out in the\natural surroundings.....In the warmer months it's nice to puta canoe in and paddle around.

A great place to spend an afternoon, no matter what season. I've been there in the spring, fall and winter. Some beautiful trails, plenty of opportunities to view wildlife and plenty of winter activities. Located just minutes north of Highway 401 and east of County Road 29.

The trails are well maintained for cross country skiing, in the summer they work hard to have educational programs teaching children about animals and habitat. A lot of hard work is done clearing trails after a storm. People come out in large numbers to participate and watch the dog sled races. Snow shoes are available if people want to try them. Planned seasonal activities supply nets to secure and study a few pollywogs, and if your are lucky observe their white swans with theirs signets, even cook your own wieners and marshmallows over an open fire.There are benches along the walking path if you prefer to sit and admire the view or even meditate. I love the area for kayaking and stopping somewhere for a packed lunch.It would not be possible without the many volunteers. Of course more volunteers would be welcomed!On occasion they may charge per car if it is a special occasion and hot food is served by volunteers. Washroom as are available on these occasions

We went for a long walk with our family of 11 - 5 grand kidsincluded and we all enjoyed the walk and nature, birds etc.

Lovely walk through the woods....I had my zoom lens on my DSLR and captured pics of swans with their goslings, swans performing for us, Osprey and Canada Geese. Nice walk thru the woods too.

Great place to visit no matter the season ... hiking, skating, snow shoeing, cross country skiing. it has it all.

Great place to take nature walks with the family. Good trails. Easily accessible. Washrooms and Parking available.

Our family loves to go to this wildlife area. It is a great place to go for a picnic and we love taking hikes on its trails. In the winter, we love to go skating on the pond. It usually isn't that crowded - a hidden gem in this area.

Kind of a nice quiet place, but don't expect groomed areas. It really is back to nature!
