We were fortunate to spend a couple of days visiting the wineries of Erie North shore and Viewpointe definitely offered the best Estate grown wines that we sampled in the area. But in addition, the welcome and knowledge of our hoste (Thanks Tammy) and the delicious lunch menu (Lake Erie Perch) promoted this account into a 5 blob TA review. Bravo Viewpointe - and your Pinot Gris is stellar, by the way.
What a beautiful spot right on the lake. Enjoy some tastings as well as lunch out looking over the lake. What a fantastic spot!! I am told it is relatively new to the area so if you are looking for a spot for a light lunch and want to enjoy the view of the lake this is the spot!!
Above average wine for the region and good value.Don't expect to be able to do a tasting to pick a bottle to savour over lunch. Not licenced for bottle service on patio....wow. Also expect to bake in the sun while having lunch on the patio if the property is booked for a wedding. With 4 umbrellas, the odds are not in your favour. 4.5 hour road trip to eat beside the loud tasting bar.......not impressed.Apply for licence bottle service. It's very simple!Get more umbrellas to provide for those with skin conditions that can't bake in the sun.
bought a couple of bottles of wines great way to check out all the place along county road 50. Looking forward to next year .
Truly a gem in an otherwise mediocre wine area. In about 10 years, this area will be as good as Niagara is now but it needs some time to mature. Viewpointe on the other hand is one that stands out (So does Pelee, Colio, and Sanson as well as a few others). Their wines are excellent and their food is also quite good from what I've had on their nice patio. My only comment is that they should do something with back area and put some landscaping in as it is very bare. Definitely give this place a try.
Wonderful wine. Wonderful people. Staff were very knowledgable about the are and product. We did not eat here but have heard wonderful reviews by the locals. We will be back for sure!
Came here as part of our wine tour with GrapeVine Tours. We started with our wine tasting with a friendly staff member. The wines (we're red drinkers) were adequate. What really impressed us was not only the stunning lake views from their outdoor, canopied patio but the fabulous lunch which started with a 3 cheese, fruit and cracker platter and was followed by a delicious perch and roast beef dip sandwhich and a glass of wine - one of the best meals we enjoyed while visiting the region. Lunch was included in the cost of our 5 hour 4 winery tour $80 p/p - worth every penny!
I loved the view/setting of this winery. Staff were very accommodating as well. I would love to go back and see this one in the summer with all in bloom!
What a wonderful winery! Viewpointe is a state of the art winery which offers fabulous wines and an even better patio to enjoy them on!We stopped in at this winery from a friend's recommendation, and I was not disappointed! The winery is clean, modern and airy. Before we went out onto the patio to enjoy lunch, we stopped at the tasting bar and enjoyed some fabulous FREE wine samples! The associate working was very friendly and knowledgeable and really seemed to love her job. The bar was quite busy, lots of people visiting the winery that day, but she was pleasant and helpful to all of the guests. We went outside and sat on the beautiful, sunny patio to enjoy lunch. Even though it was early September, we still lucked out with fabulous weather! Our waitress, Brittany, was wonderful. Very friendly, fast and efficient. We got the quesadilla and the perch...both were amazing! Washing down our fabulous food with a glass of the Auxerrois was the perfect match. The view can't be beat...the winery is located right on Lake Erie, with an unobstructed view of the lake. The patio was family friendly, and pet friendly as well. I was informed that dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash, so next time we come back we will certainly bring our dog Rufus.I would highly recommend this winery to anyone...there were families, couples and friends all enjoying themselves on the day we visited. No complaints...excellent service and excellent wine!We will certainly be back next time we are in town!
Of all the wineries in Essex County this is the worst. There is no welcoming sign when you arrive, no indication of what door to enter by, the staff is not friendly and some of the wines smell like old socks. There was one breadstick in the glass on the counter and when we requested some more to cleanse our palate, the staff rolled her eyes and huffed- like we were going to eat all of the profits. One of our members said they should perhaps do some landscaping to give the place a warmer feeling, the staff replied that the owners do this as a hobby- not to make money. VERY OBVIOUS.
I was so looking forward to being part of a group of 30 women and having an enjoyable experience, this being my first wine tour. The first 2 tours were amazing. Then we end with Viewpoint. Well I thought for sure we would be able to enjoy the "view" and the scenery but that didn't happen. What did happen is we were treated like my kids were in JK/SK when the teacher wanted to get their attention. The lights were turned off and we were told not to talk or be loud. So we paid money to go to this winery and were rushed through the barrel room and ushered out the side door. Woohoo..Viewpoint..way to make an impression on a group of 30 women who will spread the word because we all know that "women talk".
I was also on the group wine tour with Elisa B. This being our last stop, our group of 30 was prepared to enjoy the beautiful view at the winery and partake in some wine tasting. Our bus driver was a bit late (approx 10 mins) as we were lost then were met my the owners wife who was very rude and obnoxious. Not only did she scold us 4x for being late but she flicked the lights on and off to get our attention as if we were in kindergarden. Our group was made up of customer service reps, health care professionals and members of various membership teams. While on the tour, the owners wife (wish I knew her name as she never introduced herself), when asked by several members in our group, refused to inform us what kind of wine we were drinking until our group "stopped talking" and listen to her speaking or "move to the back of the group or leave" - several left after that last comment which in my mind was also a loss of business. We left shortly after this episode, most of us empty-handed, as why would you purchase products who treat their customers with disrespect. Frankly I will never go on another wine tour if this site is one of the stops. Don't waste your money, either stay home or visit another winery that knows how to treat their customers.
This was my second visit to Viewpointe. I did not like the wine the first time but I loved the view. So, I decided to give it a second chance. I was on a wine tour and this was our last stop. I cannot believe how rude and stuck up the staff was. We were treated like children, the woman shut off the lights to get everyones attention and she told our group if we didn't want to listen we could leave. So I did just that and as a professional in the health care profession, I will not be recommending this winery to anyone, in fact I will not let anyone I know go there. The wine is horrible anyway.
Part of the growing Erie Wineries selection and the tasting room is grand and the folk knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Wines are good and occasionally they offer specials on older but still excellent wines. Also has a patio where one can have an outside lunch or coffee.
Viewpoint was just that on Monday;we could see over to Ohio, Kelly's Island and Pelee Island, Old Hen and Little Hen Islands, too. The winery is adding landscaping as it can afford it, I think. The first time we went it was just bare soil. The sunken patio is beautiful and could hold 100 people for a concert, etc. We tried 4 wines and bought one, a lovely Auxerrois, pronounced Oak-sair-wa, a white with body and some sweetness. This grape is not seen very often and it was fun to learn about. The sommelier answered loads of questions for us and we had a good time in spite of the rain. The Riesling was very light and the Cab Franc was light, too.
