This piece of art has stood guard by the water for as long as I can remember. It has become a symbol of Barrie in many people's minds. And sometimes, some intriguing individuals are known to hang hammocks up there and get photographed by the Barrie Examiner!
This eye sore looks like we are worshiping the devil I don't understand how this monstrosity became a symbol of Barrie. One day we should scrap it.
A beautiful sculpture by our beautiful waterfront. Captures the spirit of Barrie and North Simcoe Muskoka! Make sure you check it out!
Ron Baird the artist truly recreated a great statue for BarrieOnce on site you realize with wind the noises are almost songs
Ugliest structure ever. This shows you that even if you've got nothing else going for you in life, that you too could create one terrible looking piece of "art" and sell it to the city of Barrie for a tidy profit. I guess in that sense, this structure is very inspirational.
This sculpture is an icon for the city of Barrie. It cannot be fully appreciated until you have been upfront and personal with the Spirit Catcher. it swings and sways with the wind or a breeze. It sings it's own song with the squealing of iron...no two songs alike. You have to see it to believe it! Enjoy.
reading the history of how this city acquired this Huge heavy icon on the waterfront its visible from everywhere downtown
The Spirit Catcher is a beautiful landmark in the downtown Barrie area. We were in the area October 2013.The Spirit Catcher\ was designed by sculptor Ron Baird. He designed it for the 1986 EXPO in Vancouver. is now situated on the shore of Kempenfelt BayI very much enjoyed seeing it.
This is such a beautiful area. The lake and the boats, the beautiful board walk, the nice ice cream hut with the best ice cream and a lot for what you pay. The spirit catcher is definitely a eye catcher.Whether your down there at sunset or just during they day it's beautiful , and great place to take walk. Depending on the day you go down they have a old car show, dragon boat races, people fishing, and the big serendipity boat that takes you around the bay. The person who made the spirit catcher has now made a big clock at the other end on the old train station.
the tools used to make it,interesting..but looks nice for being placed at the beach..nice it was brought back from B.C. to the home of the artist..
Just a very cool sculpture on the bay! It has an esoteric ambiance to it!! Hard to say more about a sculpture!!
This majestic metal monster is uniquely Barrie and a must see when you are in the city. I have been visiting the park since 1989 and this sculpture is a familiar landmark that welcomes me there. The park around the sculpture has changed significantly over the years. In '89 it was an empty field devoid of any creativity. Now, in 2013/14 it is a beautiful walk/bike path park complete with waterways, fountains and shade areas. The sculpture stands where it did 25 years ago guarding the harbour front and the city. Unique and worth a visit.
Great spot right on the waterfront. Great for all ages, opportunity to walk, jog, rest and watch the world go by whatever suits you. Lively landmarks and 'historic' interest too.
I live in Barrie and the giant metal sculpture is one of the things I love to show friends and family when they come to visit me. It's right at the waterfront, where there are walking and biking paths, a marina, fishing, playgrounds, and of course the beach! It is a very strange piece. It's very large and is up on a hill as well. The feathers of the wings actually move! They creak in the wind. I think it's kinda scary-looking, but I guess it's like a gargoyle: ugly and fierce, but designed to keep the evil spirits at bay.If you're downtown visiting Barrie, you'll probably catch a glimpse of it in the distance. Take a walk down, or drive by, and check it out! There is a small parking lot right at the base of it, but I believe it's paid parking.
Very nice well maintained area for walking, running or biking whatever your preference. Grounds are well maintained. Spirit Catcher is a beautiful sculpture in the City of Barrie.
