Cape Smokey is breathtaking. The road is full of twists and turns and is very steep, take your time and enjoy the scenery around you. You are surrounded by woods and ocean and all of natures beauty.Take the time to stop at the look offs that are throughout the area, it gives you a chance to really take it all in.

Fantastic views, beautiful unspoilt countryside. We drove through the Cabot a trail and on the return to Beddedk we drove along Ingonish Beach. The drive was through unspoilt woods with fabulous views over the sea, the beach stop was glorious. Bathed in sunshine we could see a clear blue sea nestles in the trees

The fall colors were outstanding and when we got to the lookoff's, the shoreline below us was rocky, and turbulent with the crashing waves. Even saw seals basking on the rocks!

Stunning views, fall leaves were gorgeous. Thrilling drive on the curved roads! Clean and excellent services along the way.

The last time I was here was for a 24 hour relay race around the Cabot trail many years ago. It was cold, wet and misty and I didn't fully appreciate the views even though I was not the team member who ran up that road. This time I was with the Missus and the weather was perfect. The views were spectacular, the water a deep blue colour with plenty of places to pull over and view the beautiful shoreline. We travelled here in between the summer vacation season and before the fall colours so getting lodging or into restaurants/shops wasn't a problem. True, we didn't see the spectacular fall colours but we weren't stuck behind three tour buses either. I was told weather at this time of year can be ideal as the days were warm and sunny but the evenings cool and restful so that an un-air-conditioned hotel room is not a factor. This last trip was a very happy return for me and a wonderful introduction to Cape Breton for the Missus and we can't wait to get back.

Make sure if you are in Cape Breton you take the time...and visit this area...The trees were just staring to change colour.Wonderful...lots of place to get out and look at the vistas..

We drove the Cabot Trail counter clockwise, so started on gently undulating roads until we hit Smokey Mountain just before Ingonish. The climb uphill was easy and the views at the top were simply spectacular, as this was our first elevated view of the coastline.Definitely stop and pull into the gravel road down to the parking area. Lots of parking and the views along the coast a few hundred feet below are worth it.

Long windy road up the mountain, get out at the "look-off", and the views are incredible. Surf crashing on the rocks hundreds of feet below, gulls circling and screaming, a ship on the horizon, sunlight glinting off everything. Bonus was that the surrounding hills were chock full of fresh, ripe blueberries.

Great place to cycle ... ride clockwise - way more fun ! The ride out of Ingonish has a few false start steeper climbs - the rest is pretty easy.

Stunning views!! Lots of moose poop and hold on to your hat in the wind ;) The mist was rising as we approached early morning so it as magical.

Cape Smokey was more of a place to see rather than a place to go for us on our visit and I am not certain if you are able to actually go out on the Cape. It is so visually beautiful as you come up from the South or as you view it from the Keltic Lodge or north. The ascent (by car) is formidable but the trip is so worth it!

We were lucky with the weather, so we managed to do a good variety of hikes. Lots to see around here and lovely beaches.

The place indeed is very beautiful, however the people saying that the road is dangerous either must be joking or have simply never driving on a winding road. it may be dangerous to a novice driver or perhaps on a densely foggy day. its a fun easy drive.

My husband and I happened upon Cape Smokey on a beautiful sunny day in October. We stopped at the lookout, ate our lunch at one of the picnic tables provided for visitors, used the washroom facilities, and then went for a short walk along one of the trails leading to a alternate lookout point over the ocean. Pictures can never do justice to the beauty of this majestic place with its cliff-side views of the ocean's, flat, shimmering gleam as far as the eye could see, beneath a clear cloudless autumn-blue sky above. Well worth a stop if you happen upon it on a clear day.
