I heard this is the highest single lane suspension car bridge in canada - and it is certainly the most stunning. I love how it just sneaks up on you, and if it's you're first time, you just might have a freak out when you drive across this narrow, very high up, very old bridge. The scenery is second to none and it is well worth stopping, walking across, and taking lots of pictures.

I like the phantastic views and perspectives to the different windings and streamings of majestic Skenna river. I disliked to hear, that this bridge is likely to be chosen by desperated people to jump off.

Spectacular views from this suspension bridge. The bridge, itself, is grid steel so that when you cross on a motorcycle it appears that you are flying through the air over the Bulkley River far below. One can cross it by foot, if you don't mind heights. SIngle lane traffic that works, usually well, on an honour system. Recently refurbished. An earlier suspension bridge at the same spot tended to sway, scarily, in the wind, so it was dismantled and rebuilt at Walcott, BC (between Telkwa and Houston, BC). The first bridge at this site was built by First Nations people using logs held together with telegraph wire left by the builders of the defunct Collins Overland Telegraph in the 1860's. Viewpoints and footpaths on either side of the bridge. Nearby communities are Hagwilgate and Gitanmaax (Old Hazelton).

The view from the bridge is spectacular, but getting across right now is a problem. The bridge is one-lane in the best of times, but now the B.C. road people are working to rehabilitate the 1930's vintage structure. The bridge deck is an open, grid, steel surface, and would be very slippery if wet or snowy. But during construction traffic speed is limited to 10 k/hr (yep, 6 miles per hour), so skidding isn't an issue. The VIEW, however, is great, and there are viewing areas on both sides, just plan ahead!
