Guides are available but we did the self-guided tour. The information was readily available for all flora and fauna. It is amazing to see what is in our "backyard". Very personable staff cared for our 2 dogs while we toured.
Beautiful building, excellent guides and well worth visiting...don't miss it if you are visiting Osoyoos.
Lim Limpt' (thank you) for your review. it is good to know we are still on your mind even after a month or more has passed. We were trying new things this year and based on other reviews and one-on-one interactions we were impressed with feedback so we will continue to strive to be a hospitable 1st Nations attraction. Hope to see you again!
Short and to the point! Thank you for your concise review of the cultural Centre, we are extremely proud of our heritage and are happy to share it with you. Thank you again.
Wey!! Thank you! This was short, to the point and oozes everything we love to hear about the Centre and the land it is on!
The band has done a wonderful job of presenting the background of the Osoyoos Indians and in presenting the desert and the native wildlife. The hotel, spa and winery are top notch!
Loved the curated walk through the desert! It was great to learn about the desert from a people that have lived in it for centuries.
My wife and I visited this resort to taste some of their wines a few weeks back. We were impressed with the layout of the resort, and with the desert landscape. The wine experience was good, friendly and informative. When we come back to Osoyoos next time we might check this place out and stay for a day or two. Definitely worth your time to come have a look!
Lim Limpt (thank you) For your detailed review. We apologize and are sorry you didn't have a pleasant experience at the Cultural Centre. Over the years we have read reviews and listened to guests tell us their unhappiness or general lack of attention when it comes to what is inside, so steps were taken to make sure when people arrive they are informed of the proper way to view our centre, as every place is different. You were also told it is self-guided and of the other guests that came in there was no complaints in the way the centre was introduced and explained. We hope you come back again and experience the Centre in a more pleasant manner.
We drove to Osoyoos for the weekend and one of the main reasons for our visit was to see the Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre. We knew about it, and hadn't been able to visit the area for a long time. It was very well worth the trip. The audio/visual presentations are very interesting - don't miss them - and the artifacts in the cultural centre are very informative and the outside loop is well done too. This is an excellent family experience. We know quite a lot about First Nations history but we still learned a lot here. From the architecture to the artifacts and their interpretation - we were very impressed. Thank you.
Such a beautiful building with wonderful architecture! Except the super ugly "OPEN" neon sign outside. I liked the trail right next to the centre. Since we were visiting out of season, no guides were available, neither any additional shows as mentioned in other comments here on TripAdvisor. We have seen a snake in one of the terrariums in the outside area. The off-season price was 12CAD, if you purchase them in the BC Visitor Centre in Osoyoos you can get 10% off.
We liked it so well we skipped a few wineries and stayed there to enjoy the informative presentations of the First Nation people.
The guided walk is worth the effort to be there on time. Very informative and one gets a feeling of the spirit the native americans share.. love and respect for the land. Also the short videos were well done and also not to be missed. A well maintained and high quality tribute to the Nk'Mip culture. Definitely worth a visit.
This was a quicker stop than I expected, but it was very well informed with the cultural history of the local natives and had a lovely walking path through the desert. Make sure you go to one of the cultural demonstrations- we saw a demonstration of dance and native song, and it was a lovely experience.
Thank you for your review and we are sorry you didn't experience the fullness of our Center. Our 1.5 KM loop trail leads to a replicated village, we are sorry you missed this as it is a highlight of what Okanagan lifestyle would have been and is quite enchanting. If you have arrived in September you would have missed our daily programs which is a summer time experience and is an all day excursion. Our films would have been 30 minutes in total and our outdoor gallery/walk would have taken over 40 minutes. Unfortunately if there is a time constraint or unpreparedness then it would appear to be a hit/miss visit. Hopefully we will see you again.
