Too many donation boxes. Every few steps you take, there is a donation box. Staff are not very friendly.
Nice enough, not a whole lot going on. The vegetarian restaurant closes around 3 pm so missed a chance to try it. Otherwise the grounds seem fine, but nothing outstanding.
I took an out of town visitor on a sunny Sunday afternoon to see the temple. The grounds and the temple were beautiful. There are many signs asking visitors to be quiet, but the number of people using their cell phones was ridiculous. The loud talking by the people working there was very noticeable. Perhaps the staff could enforce the quiet policy to make this more pleasurable for all visitors.
A very peaceful and relaxing place to visit. Lovely statues, beautiful gardens and a great meditation class is offered along with Buddhist teachings
We toured the Temple grounds and found it very quiet andpeaceful. The large grounds and buildings and uniquearchitecture are very interesting to walk around at.This is one of our favorite places to visit whenever we arein the area.
It was definitely a wise choice coming here. As someone who has been Buddhist for over three years now, this place is a jewel. It was fascinating to find a temple in canada that so beautifully mimics buddhist temples (albeit i found this one to be better conserved and clean than the ones I have visited in my humble opinion!). I wasnt allowed to take pictures but will need to visit it at least once more before I head back. Tips: i didnt take a guided tour, but heard they are free. if you are a tourist to the city or religion, id recommend taking one.
Fabulous architecture, beautiful grounds, friendly people and calming atmosphere. A must see for visitors and residents of Richmond.
If you are Buddist, or have an interest is seeing what a Buddist temple looks like, this is worth a visit. Dress appropriately as this is a sacred place. The site was a lot smaller than we expected. There are a few water gardens and out buildings outside the temple grounds. Speakers play music as you enter the main entrance and there is a strong scent of incense in the air. We were struck by the ornateness of the buildings and the many statues to which the faithful leave offerings of fruit and flowers. The buildings are clearly marked in English as well as Chinese. There is a vegetarian restaurant and gift shop on the premises. No photos allowed.
The temple Was beautiful i visit the temple at August 8 2014 I was very facinated I am 12 years old i enjoy your dharma talks amitoufo
Easily accessible, ...however, one has to be care when travelling westbound on Steveston. Making a left turn into the temple does pose a hazard to the vehicles behind you. Plenty of parking spots. Very peaceful and harmonious setting. The ambience is great for settling one's nerves. The temple also offers meditation classes, and vegetarian meals (select days). One can purchase joss sticks at the entrance for offerings to the deities....$5/- a pac (about 50 sticks of joss). Must visit site in Richmond.
One of the best Buddhist Temple that I have visited. The 10,000 hands statute was one of the kind. The chanting hall where the Buddha was located was very peaceful.
If you are interested in Buddhist culture, this is a great place to see amazing statues-both inside and outside the main temple. I was the only non-Asian but felt completely comfortable being there long enough to look at every statue.
This large complex is well worth a visit. The temple gardens are beautiful with a hint of whimsy with ceramic bunnies and deer (which enthralled a young visitor while we were there). The interior is interesting with detailed wall murals, a reclining Buddha, other statuary as well as the amazing painting and woodworking on the buildings themselves. This is a place of worship and we tread carefully around those who were leaving flowers or lighting incense as part of their religious experience.
Quiet place for a brief relaxing sight seeing, the bonsais , big budda are nice. Picture taking is discouraged. Vegetarian lunch available. No fees required. Stairs, easy for kids, manageable for seniors and physically challenged. Entirety Can be appreciated in half an hour.
Whenever someone comes to Vancouver this is a must stop location. They're amazed with the facilities. It is calming and relaxing too. For westerners, it is hard to understand many if the symbols and statues, I wish there were some board with background information that would allow us to understand Buddhism better.
