THE FIRST CHOICE - PLACE TO GO! The two staff members were excellent, one readily explaining in understandable terms the various oils and balsamic vinegars. I attended Fiona's illuminating presentation a month previously at the Sechelt Public Library with sampling techniques. I read Tom Mueller’s book and we knew of the controversy with the olive oil and seed oil industries. Using my newly acquired skill in olive oil sampling, I sniffed, smelled and vigorously washed the inside of my mouth and olfactory ‘factory’ with four samples of the Extra Virgin olive oil selection from mild through medium to robust. I took my time, loudly sampling, gazing down on the lovely harbor, as my wife investigated the infused and fused olive oils and balsamic vinegars . I often pictured the recent gourmet olive oil dishes Fiona shared via email wondering about the aromas and flavors and musing on how the EV oils enhanced the flavors. We had a delightful, delectable adventure. After considerable deliberation I chose a large bottle of Boundary Bend/Cobram Estate Picual while my wife chose 60 ml bottles of: Blood Orange Fused Olive Oil, Butter Infused Olive Oil, Honey Ginger White Balsamic and Dark Chocolate Balsamic. Dinner this evening was superb. I commenced with a partial jigger of the Picual, subsequently liberally adding the oil to my garden salad and large Okanagan baked potato. I look forward to my partial jigger of the Picual prior to breakfast every morning commencing tomorrow plus EV-oilings at lunch and supper. I took the offer to taste the Butter Infused Olive Oil toward the end of supper, finding it a delight. Three more taste delights awaiting me when the additional purchases are offered as surprises.Kudos to Fiona and Matt for courageously following this path and sharing their adventures with, and introducing new EVOO delights to us! We anticipate tasting and purchasing regularly.Peter
Yes you can get really good-maybe even the best on the Sunshine Coast-olive oil right in Gibsons! These are not just your regular supermarket extra virgin oils, they are real olive oisl that you can sip and taste. These oils are not for cooking with-they are for salad dressings mainly. Our favourites are the Koroneiki and the Herbes de Provence. Anyways they are not cheap but they taste very good and your salads will improve with these oils. The store has balsamic vinegar as well.
No trip to Lower Gibson's should be made without a stop at this delightful store. Well worth the time to do some sample tasting of the wide variety of oils and vinegars and talk to the knowledgeable staff. This store is a fine addition to Gibson's. Congratulations to Sunshine Coast Olive Oil and your first anniversary. Your product is excellent. I suppose you can't count me among your satisfied customers!
Bought ice cream across the street, then came over to Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Co. and tested a sample of Balsimic Vinegar on top of the ice cream. Delicious! Ended up buying a couple of flavoured balsimic vinegars to bring home. The dark chocolate is terrific with strawberries and ice cream. Can't wait to try more. Service was excellent in store, and I even emailed a question and received a prompt response. Would definitely visit again.
What a fabulous collection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars from all over the world. Nicely presented in dark bottles of all sizes. We also enjoyed tasting many different types of oils and vinegar. Great knowledgeable service.
Not only do I love the products, I love the bottles I have returned many times to the Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Co. store for replacement product and great gifts, which have all been well received. When I was busy over the holidays and unfortunately could not get into the store the mail order service was a brilliant solution for all my out of town gifts, the convince and prompt service was wonderful.
I placed an order with the Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Company back in November 2013, just before their on line site was up and running.I had e-mailed the Owner and was given a listing of 5 suggested pairings of Oils and Balsamics.I ordered ten (10) (yes - really 10!) of the 375 ml bottles - 5 Oils and 5 Balsamics.Total cost for shipping - $15.00, REGARDLESS of how much you order. Great deal for us Bulk Shoppers - and for those who do not have ready access directly to their store - LOL!The box arrived within the week and with the great packing, nothing came damaged. We have used all 10 bottles extensively in cooking, on salads, as drizzles and dips. These products have completely changed how we cook and eat. Seriously, we have mixed and matched, and come up with some unique pairings on our own.We LOVED all of the Oils and Balsamics we received - can't say enough about them! The design on the bottles is very elegant, and I leave all of them in a mesh organizer on my kitchen counter. I've received dozens of compliments from people when they see my display; truly a work of visual art. These are AMAZING products with a Staff that are extremely helpful with "newbies" to the flavoured Olive Oils and Balsamics genre.Looking forward to my next order, and with a shipping price of a flat rate of $15.00, this business will boom with online sales!
We live in Gibsons and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to have access to the best of the best when it comes to olive oils and balsamics. I've dressed my salads for years with sub standard oils and vinegars and now my salads and marinades have been taken to a whole new level of excellence. We are blessed to have this store open with the knowledgeable staff on hand. My only complaint is that I'm running our of shelf space in my kitchen since I'm now sporting 4 new balsamics and 3 oils. I've also had fun shopping for gifts for foodie family and friends.
I visited the Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Company when I was in Gibsons in October. It is located in the part of Gower Pt. Road that has shops along both sides, very close to the waterfront. It is an enjoyable walk, with the opportunity to pop into various shops and browse around. The most interesting shop is the Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Company. This is the first time I've ever been in a shop that deals exclusively with olive oil and balsamics. The shop itself is charming, with a beautiful view of the harbor. The Sunshine Coast Olive Oil shop was something completely new to me. They offer dozens of choices among olive oils and balsamic vinegars, including award-winning products, with details about each one on the vats lining the walls. This arrangement makes it easy for them to offer you a sample of any of the oils that look promising, so you can taste before you buy. When you've made your decision, the staff person will decant the oil you've selected into a Sunshine Coast Olive Oil bottle. They have small, medium, and large bottles. These are not the ordinary kinds of olive oil you'll find on the grocery store shelf. As I understand it, the Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Company belongs to a consortium of shops, all over the world, that work cooperatively to buy the best olive oil, guaranteed to be of the quality it says it is. The cooperative sends representatives to observe when the olives are pressed into oil, so they are able to confirm that if it says "extra virgin" on the label, it really is. One of the owners, Fiona, told me that, unfortunately, researchers have found that all too often what is in the bottles on store shelves does not match what is on the label. This consortium, and its member shops, like the Sunshine Coast Olive Oil shop, go to great lengths to be sure the legitimacy of the oil they sell.Their olive oils come from all over the world, so there is a rich variety of taste. What's in stock changes seasonally, I was told, because of the different harvest times around the world. The staff know a lot about olive oil, and they would have happily explained things like polyphenols and oleic acid and whatnot to me, but that was more than I needed to know. However, if you are a customer who wants all those details, just ask. I decided to get gifts for people back home, because most of the people on my gift-giving list are foodies. It solved the gift issue easily. The staff were extremely helpful in narrowing it down, which was invaluable, because there are dozens to choose from. For one friend, I got a sampler box of half-dozen small bottles. For another, I got the olive oil butter, which is completely vegan, despite the "butter" in the name. It does indeed taste like butter. For another, I got a bottle of Hojiblanca, which won a "Best of Class" award at the New York Olive Oil Competition. More importantly, I tasted it and it was great. Since the company sells its products online, and ships, the people getting the gifts could obtain more for themselves later, if they liked what I gave them. They wouldn't have to come all the way to the Sunshine Coast. If you're visiting the Sunshine Coast, go to the olive oil company when you're in Gibsons. If you're a foodie, or if you are looking for gifts for foodies, you really will have a lot of fun browsing around. Even if you aren't a foodie, it is interesting to visit. Everyone connected with it is friendly and helpful, especially the owners, Fiona and Matt. They welcome browsers.
