When I was home-schooling my kids we took an afternoon and visited this museum. Both my kids had a great time. Lots of really good displays and information. The volunteers are very informative and best of all you can't beat the price. A great way to spend an afternoon and learn some history. I would highly recommend a visit here.
The Military Museum is definitely worth a visit lots to see and very interesting. Displays are amazing
The different areas within the museums bring with them a history of a time that needs to be remembered, lest we as a society make the same mistakes. This is really a number of individual museums under one roof, army units, navy and airforce.
The presentation was wonderful, the staff excellent. You learn through the presentations of the hardship they endured for our countries freedoms we so often take for granted. Their love of country and for each other as brothers in arms.
While visiting Calgary we were not sure what to do and there was a storm going on so the zoo was off the table. We decided to check out the military museum and we were not disappointed it was amazing and the artifacts were well displayed. We were greeted at the door by a nice man who told us how the museum worked gave us a map. This service is truly one of a kind for a large facility. My 4 kids had a enjoyable experience and was able to give respect to the men and woman who serve our country. Also during our tour we had a very knowledgeable tour guide and the kids had fun answering his questions. I would recommend this to everyone. A must see in Calgary.
An exclelent colection inside and outside. Inside, a walk over the canadian defense force, including navy, airforce and army. Outside real tanks and even an airplane. The people who work there are gentil and kind.
The staff here are all extremely knowledgable. I've gone several times and I learn something new every time. Every generation should go and learn about our history and find a newfound respect for those who fought for our freedom.
Fascinating history to be found here.Crowded on Remembrance Days, but well worth attending. A family tradition to visit.
Very informative about the Canadian participation in the wars that our military fought for the freedom that we take for granted. Many forfeited his/her life. Let us not forget but appreciate his/her sacrifice.
We took our Dad to the Military Museums and it was a thought provoking visit for him. He is kind of a WWI and WWII buff and he could identify with just about everything in the museum. His older brother was in WWII and as we walked through the museum, Dad would look at the maps and write ups and say, my brother was here, here, and so on. This museum is very educational and should be visited by everyone at least once, to see what our vets went through to preserve our democracy. There is also a Naval and Air Museum in Calgary, both of which are worthwhile to visit as well.
First of all - gentleman who works there ( I believe Denis is his name ) is amazing. He greeted us, told us ( shortly ) about museum, along with few guidelines on certain expo's. You can tell he loves what he is doing! I learned so much about Canadian involvement in military mission and also a lot about women in Canadian army. Being a girl and not to interested into "war staff" , I found it pretty interested. Being from Europe ( where I visited more then few museums on that subject ), I think they made this museum with a lot of passion. If you are in Calgary and have few hours extra - spend it there.
Have lived in Calgary for many years and never stopped at the Military Museums. Should have gone sooner. It is a great family outing with lots of information. It is inexpensive and very engaging. There are tanks and vehicles outside. Inside you have six galleries around the perimeter. There is an emphasis on the Princess Patricia which is unique and detailed. Next time there are visitors in town we will be sure to direct them to visit and not just see it from Crowchild Trail.
I felt this museum was worth a look. The portrait mosaic mural was fascinating! I enjoyed the lifelike figures, learning about the different regiments origins and having the different military branches all at one location.
Great displays, fabulous art and history mural in foyer, really involving museum. Worth every minute.
Very excellent displays and very moving scenes depicted with wax people Amazing. My sons have loved these museums and come back time and again.
