We visited the Old Strathcona Market on our first trip to Edmonton earlier this month. We flew in from Ontario early that morning, and this Market was our first stop. As we understand it, Edmonton has several great markets to choose from, and we certainly weren't disappointed with this one! It's a lovely medium sized market, with tons of local meat and produce, arts and crafts, delicious treats (we had perogies, and then fudge). It is wonderfully located one street away from Whyte Avenue with lots of shops and restaurants, so the Market is a great starting point on a walking tour of that area!

Wow, so impressed with this indoor venue. I hear it's the original farmer's market. Free admissionTons of organic fruits and vegetables, organic meats, local artists, etc. Lots of variety, from cupcakes to hot food, to healthy green powders to chocolate, to knit sweaters to metal artists. I love that it's a permanent year round market, so one can support local businesses all year round for groceries and gifts.

If you like markets this is a must, the place is really well located, is on whyte ave. the place is free and you can find lots of local food and other good products, the breakfast there is really good and not expensive, you can find organic food and some crafts. there is place where you can leave your car and just outside is whyte ave. which is a really good street for a morning walk, there are different shops and cafeterias as well as bookstores. really nice place to go. please consider that as far I as know this market ONLY opens on Saturdays so plan your trip.

We travel a good bit and always stop for a Farmers Market. This was located on the main road from the airport to downtown Edmonton, since it was no trouble (Free, close parking) we decided to spend an hour or so looking through the goods. We bought a nice lunch sandwich and some other items to snack on during our drive. Worth a stop !

We love Farmer Markets and this one was no exception; colorful, tasty and beautiful. Fresh fruit, vegetables, breads, cakes, meats, cheese, and many more; a feast for the senses.

I go here a few times a year for food items but it would be nice to have a better variety of items as many venders carry the same items. The St Albert Farmers Market is much better and larger. There are only local items and along with the weekly regulars, there are always new items to check out.

Lively, friendly and fun! This market is large and noisy....just the way you want a market to be. Good vendors with lots of choices.

The Old Strathcona Farmer's Market is located in the Old Strathcona District of Edmonton, the soul and cultural hub of the city. OSFM is an authentic farmer's market becasue it is not neat and tidy, and store signages are all homemade. I visited the Calgary Farmer's Market last August and my first impression was that this farmer market setup is like you are walking into a suburban mall, every thing is neat and tidy, every signage is professional done with a very commercial feeling. OSFM has a very different feel, it is homey, it is cozy, it is like you are walking into a huge barn of a farm. You can sample many differnt foods from different culture, like traditional Mennonite farmer sausage, honey from Hutterite colony, spicy shrimps from Africa, and Jewish hummus, plus the usual fresh fruits and vegetables, and OSFM offers various artisten works and products. OSFM, which is opened all year round, is a must visit when you come to Edmonton, and you can stroll along the famous Whyte Avenue of the Old Strathcona District, and have a taste of the soul and heart of Edmonton.

It was a little overcast today so my husband and I decided to check out a couple of the local Farmer's Markets in Edmonton. What a pleasant surprise this market held for us.From the minute you walk through the doors, the music of local buskers invites a person in. Then you are captivated by the various venders selling flowers, baking, preserves, crafts... the list goes on. Each sense is stimulated by the surrounding atmosphere. Did I mention that there are a lot of free food samples to try? I had quite a time convincing my husband that he didn't have to try them all. That being said, the prices for some items can be higher than one may want to pay.In the end we thoroughly enjoyed the Old Strathcona Farmer's Market. It provided a little bit of sunshine for a dreary day. It was nice to splurge on tulips ($6) and willows ($2) to help remind me that Spring is on its way... : )

If you're looking for a good deal here, steer clear! That said, if you want a place to go with family and friends on a nice day, check out the Farmer's Market.
