Thanks BenitoMontreal for your review about La Petite Vie Exhibition.
Hi MTClarity,Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us
The exhibit on crimes of Quebec was very interesting and fit well with the fact that the tours of the adjacent jail meet in the museum. Descriptions were in French, English, and Spanish. A lot of space was devoted to La Petite Vie, a Quebec TV comedy. It was interesting to see the costumes and sets but it would have had more meaning if you had watched the program. There seemed to be a lot of space in the building that did not have exhibits. There was a sign that one was in preparation. I was disappointed that none of the history of Trois Rivieres was covered. We were lucky enough to get an English tour of the jail. That was very informative. The guide not only told us about life in the jail but gave us an idea of what was going on in the town at that time.
A beautiful relatively new museum devoted to Québecois popular culture. When we were there there were three special exhibitions including one on an (obviously) incredibly popular soap opera from the 1990s that non-Québecois can't possible relate to but that was nonetheless very interesting as a view into the culture; one on crime and criminals and one on sports and Québecois in sports. This was time very well spent. T-R has another truly impressive museum (Boréalis) and so the stop here (intended for no good reason other than to see a part of Q. other than Québec City and Montréal) was really a pleasure. The museum building and its site in a quiet neighborhood within a few blocks of downtown are delightful.
Loved the expo on Quebec's criminal history. This activity is what brought me to trois rivieres.
My husband and I stopped here on a Wednesday afternoon in early June with the hopes of visiting the Old Jail. Unfortunately, there were no English tours available, so we took in several exhibits at the adjoining Quebec Museum of Popular Culture. There were several children's groups going through other areas of the museum, while we enjoyed the folk art, sculpture, death, and crime exhibits. As morbid as they sound, these were remarkably well done, especially for an English audience. We both came away having learned a lot and feeling surprisingly upbeat about the entire experience. The crime exhibit was especially engaging with stories of historic and contemporary murders, cults, and crooked cops. The book sculptures were a quirky take on different genres and shouldn't be missed! The gift shop had several fun gifts and we couldn't help but pick up an adorable cartoon bank keepsake for our son. I found the gifts on offer more enticing than those at the Musee de la Civilisation in Quebec City.
