It was just really fun to climb the mountain, and then the view at the top was simply amazing. I recommend going in the winter because all of the beaten snow paths add to the adventurous feel. But the same paths are open (and probably safer) during the summer.
Incredible view from high above Montreal. A must see and do while in Montreal. We walked Montreal and also walked up to Mt. Royal. It was worth it for the view of the city is fabulous.
Climbing to the top is a must - it's quite a steep climb and there are several flights of stairs, but it will be worth it when you see the view from the top. There's plenty of stuff to do around the mountain as well - biking and hiking in summer, snowshoeing and tobogganing in winter. Beaver Lake is another great place to walk around. Overall, the mountain is a good break from the hustle of downtown Montreal.
We went in winter time so daylight only lasts so long and it was getting dark by the time we got up there. Spectacular view for sure, but perhaps it is a different experience when there is ample daylight. We will have to visit again.
When I wanted to set apart from the noisy streets of Montreal and the hustle and bustle of modern town life, I always had found myself within the large green spaces of the Mont Royal. This place lies in fact on the three hills inside the limits of Montreal city complex, and just makes the ideal entity of real nature with the modern urban surroundings. These are the Colline de la Croix, Colline d'Outremont and the Westmount Summit. There are two hundreds hectares here, that make all these parks, going as in the some chain, one after another. Not far from the center of this vast green area, also situated on the hill, is the famous Montreal University and St. Joseph's Oratory. That is the just right spot to take some rest during the day, to have some leisure hours, or to get acquainted with certain number of monuments within it.Again the pleasant surprise, it was for me, when I visited this magnificent metropole.
We went there during the summer but then when we were on top it was dark. As we were making our way down there were fireflies everywhere. The dark forest became glittering. It was breathtaking. Though we went there very often we only encountered such magic for the first time
I went there during the winter, so only may access by car, but the view is amazing. I already went to there during the summer and is a completely different place. Good in both seasons.
Cimbing the stairs to the top is not for the timid as it can be quite taxing. There is also the gentler winding paths to the top but regardless, once reaching the top, the views of Montreal are spectacular and the peaceful surroundings makes you forget your in a major metropolis.
