One of the most gorgeous and safest beaches around, and it is massive with very few people as well. I was only there the end of summer and it was wide open and beautiful. The sunrise shots I got on this beach were beyond compare so far in all of New Zealand!

Stunning miles long beach with fabulous surf for surfboarders and boogie boarders alike. Surf's up day in day out at Ohope, and it's always safe. Nice cafes at The Quay, Hui, and further along a nice posh resto at The Fisherman's Wharf. What are you waiting for? Worth being in a land down under for.

Miles of beach where the sea is shallow and waves roll in. The restaurants shops and bars are friendly and good. We walked the path across to Whakatane where there are great views to be had. It is a long hard climd over many steps so take water and good walking shoes.

Love this beach, beautiful sights, nice swimming spots all along Ohope. We tend to stick to our usual spot Maraetotara, nice swimming spot, right next to a awesome park with the best flying fox around, toilets are nice and close and they also have a coin operated bbq!

This is said to be New Zealand's most loved beach (how do they get those facts?!)In fact, there was nothing really special about it at all. The few cafes and shops around are very expensive and the beach didn't scream "wow" at me at all. There is a beautiful coastal walk around here which will take seven hours to do the whole thing or you can do little bits of it - lots of steps and climbing but some extremely beautiful view points.I would advise doing this and then choosing a smaller private beach to chill on instead of Ohope.

It felt like a slice of paradise! 11km of unspoiled beach with a view of the volcano. The sea is a bit cold to swim in but we enjoyed a few hours walking and lazing about on the beach. The park near the beach has BBQ facilities and is a great idea for lunch.

My association with Ohope beach goes back over 50 years when I used to hitch hike there on weekends while at High School. I would save my paper run money to hire a surfboard. Since then it has grown 100 fold. I eventually built a house there. It is one of the safest beaches with a very long slope off to deeper water. It can be very calm especially in the winter punctuated with the odd on shore storm. There is so much to do, surfing, swimming, boating, fishing, wind surfing in Ohiwa harbour, kite surfing and so on. There are a couple of cafes, a restaurant, several dairies and heaps of accommodation suppliers including to holiday/motor camps. For a real treat grab some fish and chips from the Oyster Farm just past the Fire Station on the Ohiwa Harbour road - best F&Cs in the Eastern Bay.

We spent a couple of days on Ohope Beach and walked several of it's 12 miles. Even though there was a regatta with hundreds of people attending on the west end, our east end was quiet and tranquil, with only a handful of people to be seen. The beautiful Bay of Plenty was aptly named.
