Quite small but lots of interesting information crammed into that space. Takes the visitor through a time sequence with exhibits from the different areas. Found the car-related stuff very interesting.

Enjoyed the 1900's year by year exhibit--gave us a good understand of the life of Wellington. The sinking of the ferry ship in the hurricane was fascinating.

This was a nice museum, smaller than Te Papa. Lots of interesting things to see an read about the history etc and even things to "play with"

Great location free to visitors recounting the history of Wellington and its long association with the sea

This museum is a great place to start your visit to Wellington if you are not familiar with the city and it`s history. To start with, the entrance is free and if you enjoy it, like I did, you can donate what you consider fair in your way out. In the main gallery you can learn about the last 115 years of the city year by year and some of the most significant events ever happened in New Zealand`s capital. The building also recreates Wellington`s looks about the 1900s and has a room dedicated to the Wahine Disaster, worth visiting if you are in the city.

Good collection of Wellington history. But there's plenty more there and calling it "Museum of Wellington City & Sea" doesn't do it enough justice. It's definitely *not* a stuffy old museum. Within easy reach of Lambton Quay / CBD, perfect for a bad-weather day. If it's raining, you'll pick up a few drops of rain getting there, but only a few drops, and the visit will be worth it. There are several floors and each floor is themed, with a couple of A/V presentations that run on a cycle. Those about to catch the ferry across to the South Island will find the Wahine disaster video both sobering and add historical/geographic context to your trip as you sail out of Wellington harbour. Take the time to watch the A/V presentation on the next floor up on Maori myths and legends, it's not just the content but the A/V technology used is interesting - it's not just a boring old screen projection. Allow 2 hours, you'll need an hour just to skim through. However, you can easily spend half a day here if you take the time to view and read the exhibits. But don't rush through too quickly as you walk through the first cargo/Bond store section or you might miss the rats (there are more than one but don't worry, these rats never bite ;-) )And all for the grand price of nothing (they welcome donations of course), can't imagine a 'free' attraction like this in Europe.

I took two overseas visitors for a quick visit last week. We went to see the Wahine film in particular and stayed for another hour before time pressure meant we had to move on. There are so many interesting stories and exhibits at this small but well presented museum. The Wahine film is adequate for the 10 minutes or so that it takes and it is convenient that there is a mximum wait of only about 15 minutes between showings.

A very interesting museum on the history of Wellington, in particular its maritime history. The film on the Wahine disaster is a must

In the renovated Harbour Board (in its day one of the most important institutions in Wellington) a fascinating survey of what the Sea meant to the City; includes film of the 1968 wreck of the overnight ferry from Christchurch. The best museum in Wellington.

Was a pretty good little museum. Stumbled upon it by accident. They offered to look after our bags for us while we were there. Very friendly staff that were more than helpful pointing out other interesting locations to go and see

An excellent introduction to this lovely little city. It won't take a huge amount of your time but it's well worth it.

If you walked past this place you wouldnt no just what it had to offer. From the outside you get no idea of what it has to offer. One of the most informative places I visited. Heaps to learn and digest. It just needs more promotion. Dont walk by, walk in

We have visited this museum a number of times and although not extensive has always had a variety of different and interesting exhibitions to peruse.
