The engineering marvel of this reservoir, and its acoustic properties have been amazing people for years. There are some picnic tables and toilets. The car park is not sealed. Interesting interpretive information. Some shady trees. Spend 30 mins to 1 hour. Years ago you could walk down stairs to the base, but the risks appear to have become too great, as it is now closed.

This is one of those places that is genuinely entertaining for everybody . The engineering and its acoustical qualities are amazing , and the kids love it . There is picnic facilities and toliets available , with nice surroundings , and all for free !

what a great day trip from Adelaide travel through the Barossa taste some fine wines then drift back to the city via the whispering wall great entertainment for all the family truly amazing then proceed throught the Adelaide hills to Handorf take a amble up the main street simply delightful a great relaxing day

My partner and were visiting with a teenage girl from the Far North of SA and the look on her face when 'Whispering Wall' did it's magic was priceless!

We were traveling with friends who are from Adelaide. Not quite sure what he was doing when he crossed the bridge but figured it out soon enough! fun little stop, amazing how things work.

We were making our way from Adelaide to the Barossa and had read the reviews on this so thought it would be fun to stop off. Such a weird thing to be able to hear perfectly what my partner was saying from 144 metres away. At least now I can say he has no excuse for not hearing me in future! A bit of light fun. Stayed for about 10-15mins and then were on our way.

According to Google the Barossa Reservoir's Whispering Wall is an engineering feat; built between 1900 and 1903 as a back-up water supply for the growing population of Gawler. Early settlers had been using the water from a well in the South Para River, but quality concerns forced the construction of the dam at the site of the Yettie Creek Gorge. Anyway, we had fun speaking to each other across the 140m distance. It's quite amazing how clearly you can hear someone from so far away. The Japanese tourists were clearly impressed too!

Although I have been here previously, I thought I would revisit with my wife and her visiting father. Unfortunately it was closed. The fire Warning for the area was given as the reason. So before visiting, check the fire warning status for the area or your visit may be in vain.

Have been several times and the grandkids love it.Good toilet facilities and has a picnic area.Excellent place to take overseas visitors

Yes it is just a dam wall!But it is dam entertaining!It was a great place to stop and have a toilet break and a stretch. Then a lot of whispering and not so whispering moments.Something different to eating and sampling wine and made the day enjoyable.

Came here after being told about it from a fellow kiwi, well worth the trip, not only amazing, but met some other travellers from around the world.

Its quite amazing how you can whisper something from one far end to another and can still hear it very clearly. When I went there it was a lovely day where you can see the lovely scenery and the nature there. There was a tour and i heard that if your lucky, you'll be able to see some koalas up on the trees but i think you just need to look very carefully and by luck. As the Whispering Wall its in the Barossa Valley, its a great way to kill sometime in between the wine tasting.

Very lucky I still had battery life left in my phone to GPS this bad boy! At 26 years of age and from South Australia- you'd think I would have visited the Whispering Wall at some stage already. I was on a day out with the boy who has just arrived from England, and likes a bit of the weird and wonderful- we were filling up the car in Kapunda when the thought came to my mind, so off we went- 45 minutes later (the GPS took us around in circles twice!) we arrived, and WOW! I know it might not seem like much but, how cool is the Whispering Wall?!!!! I was amazed at the clarity with such distance, you don't even need to yell- better than any phone service provider i've ever had! The walk across the wall is somethin' else too, water to your left and a 36m drop to your right!The area is nice, decent car park, lots of trees around, there are public toilets and tables and benches with a picnic area if you're making an arvo of it. If you didn't pack anything then there really isn't much else to the spot though.

Spent my second day in Australia traveling round the local area and visited the whispering wall , I was with my brother and his partner who I couldn't understand until she spoke via the whispering wall excellent clarity from so far away you have to try it , well worth a visit .

The builders of this dam wall used certain rocks and designed in a certain way that you can hear others whisper from over a hundred metres away. Good place for a quick visit while you are on your way to the Barossa Valley.
