What a find to this lovely winerie out side Willunga Hills. There is something for all ages to do.The children love the wall climbing and sampling the grapes.Walks by the pond and around the winerie its self. There's also a 12 stringed guitar to play a tune on if your musical, which my husband was.Just a fab place for wine tasting and a picnic of course. The best Pino we tasted in the wine area by far.

Magpie Springs is a beautiful scenic spot to spend the day. There are many interesting things to do. A walk around the property, the rock climbing wall and the art gallery just to mention a few. Definitely worth the short trip down there from Adelaide CBD.

Offering gorgeous rolling vines, a trout-filled dam, wine, home-roasted coffee, a rock-climbing wall, some of the best art Adelaide has to offer and so much more, Magpie Springs is uniquely South Australian! Reinvigorate the spirit as you unleash your inner artisan, there's so much to do here. From enjoying an afternoon of laid-back entertainment, to the wonderful art on offer or chatting with hosts Avril and Steve over a glass of wine to the more active endeavours, rock-climbing, yoga or meandering through the gorgeous grounds, this place is sure to delight.Magpie Springs is my family's favourite destination to relax, unwind and recharge.

Magpie Springs is an amazing find nestled in the Willunga Hills. Hosts Steve, Avril and the doorman/dog (which ever way you view him) Benny, instantly make you feel at home. Its a beautiful setting for a picnic, a wedding, climbing, and or sampling a wine or two, or three.... Now with their weekly yoga sessions I challenge anyone to feel more relaxed when leaving.. Magpie Springs is by far my favourite place in South Australia.

Usually when you visit a winery you get to taste some wine, but usually its rather boring .... Magpie Springs couldn't be any further from boring! There is so much to do and its sooo pretty. Such an incredible gem tucked away on Brookman Rd and has DAY TRIP written all over it. With the wines being easily up there with the greatest that the Adelaide Hills has to offer, and I usually come away with spending a bunch to take some home. There is an Art Gallery you can check out while you taste the wines, freshly roasted Coffee for me a coffee lover and when being desi its perfect. The lawns are perfect for picnics, I've painted watercolour art there and its so beautiful with the views all over the joint. I've been to some pretty awesome events there as they sure do know how to put on a super soiree. The "safari" ride so much fun especially me a bit of a thrill seeker and when feeling more mellow we've gone and had a crack at fishing for fish like trout and redfin AND Southern Boulder is there and who doesnt love climbing! Well I loved it ... so much I had to share all these brilliant extras that make this location so fun and as it keeps changing I keep bringing friends back to go see this place time and time again.

What a lovely morning! I first visited this little gem in October 2014 because I wanted to see the photos of Alex Frayne as part of the Shimmer Photographic Biennale. That was terrific ... but what a bonus: the grounds, ambience, home roasted coffee; the Pinot Noir, conversations and art works of Avril Thomas. This is a lovely vineyard with gorgeous grounds and an easy ambience which invites restful enjoyment, either picnicking in the garden, looking at art work, ambling round the grounds while drinking wine of course. One of my favourite wineries in this region - and there are many!!

You wind your way up the driveway through the vines and come to this beautiful setting. It's quite magical; like something out of a story book. You park your car under shadey trees and walk down a few steps to a gallery which always displays fascinating works of art. The exhibitions are ever changing. Most are for sale. A few steps down there's a wine tasting area where your hosts serve samples of their wines and/or you can have one of their delicious Magpie Springs coffees. The owner/artist has some of her own paintings on display and when you step out into the garden and then to the lawned picnic area, you get that sense of her artist's eye for detail, colour, shape and balance. The vines, the unique little house and the damn in the distance; there's a feeling of peace here. You sit out there with friends, a Magpie Springs bottle of wine or two and a picnic. It's my favourite picnic place. I love unwinding here.

An easy 50 minute drive south of Adelaide CBD, Magpie Springs has it all! You'll find the cellar door and art gallery in a beautiful setting amid a working vineyard and cottage garden, with serenading birds and frogs for much of the year. The small selection of wines is excellent quality, with the Pinot Noir a stand out. The gallery adjoining the cellar door is a great space for displaying work for sale from SA based artists, including the proprietor, well-known portrait artist Avril Thomas. After consuming the wine and art, a cup of freshly roasted and brewed coffee is also on-hand. The shady garden provides a perfect picnic spot, and the more energetic can get a good workout at the Southern Boulder climbing wall, also on site. I will continue to return often to this beautiful spot, and recommend that you do too!

I attended a wedding at Magpie Springs and it was the perfect venue for a fabulous day. The gardens are peaceful and the vines as a back drop we're magical. I would recommend checking it out for functions with a difference. The gallery is full of great art and the shows change often. The wines and coffee available made for a very enjoyable day. Definitely make sure you drop in and experience Magpie Springs.Sue W

Had a wonderful afternoon with friends picnicking in the sun, sipping Pinot and later burning off some energy on their fabulous bouldering wall. The owners Avril and Steve are incredibly welcoming as is Benny - the canine greeting party of one. Been back several times since.

It's always worth a walk around Magpie Springs, just out of Willunga, south of Adelaide, but in the early months of the year visitors can enter their annual photography competition. By collecting a form upon arrival and reading the rules of the competition, you can proceed to investigate subjects for the competition and exhibition. There's plenty to see on the property, from old machinery and buildings, some handmade, to pockets of bush, orchards, vineyards, a couple of dams that attract bird-life and frogs, and a Provencale-style garden that is often festive with wrens and honey-eaters.Realist and portrait artist Avril Thomas has her studio on the property, and a small exhibition space where exhibitions change every couple of months - artworks ranging from the photography competition to still life, landscape and interior oil and watercolour paintings, and imaginative sci-fi and fantasy art have been shown so far. Magpie Springs produces a range of red and white wines, but the pinot noir and sticky dessert wines are particularly noteworthy. In addition, coffee is packaged and sold at the cellar door. There's plenty of space for a group or family to sit outside on the lawns on a fine day, which are wonderful for a picnic if you feel so inclined. If you are more physically active, you can use the climbing wall. It's a great location for outdoor functions, even formal occasions, and is regularly on the route for the Tour Down Under. Check the website to see what's on when and the costs for usage, and take a drive down - it's a unique experience full of potential surprises.

Love this place. We've approached it from Meadows and the kuitpo forest. Such a beautiful way to see the Adelaide Hills. Once at magpie springs buy a bottle of wine and sit on the lawns. If you are really organized, pack a picnic lunch and enjoy one of the many shady spots around the house. The art exhibitions are always fresh and new, showcasing local artists. Will visit again.
