By the time you're checked in at one of the old huts, either the convict era bakery or shearing shed your already in a cruisier gear. You take five to contemplate your swing and listen to the Clyde river burble by, you notice many old nails in the rafters. Where they used to dry rabbit skins back in the 1890's, the local footy team was called the Bothwell Rabbits. It's easy to drift back to an earthiness that used to be far more prevalent. By the time you've swung an ancient hickory set around that farm you've travelled through time. Enjoy a dram after the game before you nestle into that tardis of a shearing shed. Remember to yell 'fore' when you get back to the modern world!
I booked 9 holes here for my fiancé's birthday. He is an amateur golfer who loves the game and had a fantastic time! We were completely charmed by gorgeous old homestead and of course the highland cows and their baby calf! Nothing was too much for the owners, the greens are in good condition and it was really fun and a unique golfing experience making our way around the course. Definitely will return, and if you call yourself a golf lover, we strongly recommend you pay a visit! Of you're hungry, stop by the Castle pub for the largest beef schnitzel I have ever seen... Or attempted!
This is the oldest Australian Golf Course. I Didn't have time to play but would have liked to. The greens are protected from the sheep by a fence which can be partially removed for the approach shots to the green. Just be wary of all the sheep dung and take a cleaning device for your shoes if you do play there. As I said before this should be on all Australian golfers bucket list
Oldest golf course in the southern hemisphere> Genuine farm based golf course, 12 holes, great tradition
To see the square greens and its history and the carved golfer at the 10th hole.
