I have to admit that I love my raspberries fresh, as jam, in trifle, with chocolate cake, as ice cream and many more. Well, Kate's Berry Farm is a delightful little place, with verandah andview, to stop and sample this delectable fruit in oh, so many ways. I could dream of a daily visit...
Stopped at Kate's during our Tasmania Trip for an after-breakfast snack. We expected to see a working berry farm or something similar and/or educational, but it ended up being mostly a shop, cafe and tourist attraction (Lots of tourists....).However, we didn't let this put us down and ordered a blueberry ice cream which was very nice, and a tasty strawberry and rhubarb cheesecake. As mentioned by another reviewer, the place is not cheap and somewhat too touristy for me, but the jams we tasted were excellent and what we ordered was good. Not a "must", but if you are around and possess a sweet tooth, pay them a visit!!
I had noted the variation in reviews, which seemed to come from differing expectations. No, this is not a "pick your own" or "observe our process" berry farm experience. There is a visible area under cultivation, but Kate's is about berry food options. Jams (super good), ice creams, chocolates etc. Plenty to taste. No, it is not supermarket cheap. Yes, what we had was delicious (scones, pancakes with lots of berries / jam). And the view is great.
Lovely café off the main road a bit. Very nice. The coffee and snacks were nice as were the chocolates, jam and berries we purchased. Worth a look if travelling the east coast of Tasmania.
Six months later and we are still enjoying our stock of beautiful jams and preserves we brought back from Kate's Berry Farm. Absolutely lovely.
Our son and his wife took us to Kates Berry Farm for lunch and I~ can tell you its an experience not to be missedAlso in the shop they cater for the taste buds, in jam, sweets, cakes, chocolates and desserts to die for.To find Kates look for the Addison Street Junction on the Tasman Highway 2km south of Swansea. They also have glutton free products so this caters for all.
Have visited Kates several times over the past 5 years and really looked forward to each visit with mouths watering! We have to say today is our last time. The food and coffee are great but they have lost the plot on prices. Two scones $12, a slice of cake $12, muffins were $12 for two. Food excellent tasting no doubt about that, but whilst waiting with several other people to order the cash register lady went and collected her own coffee, added sugar, stirred her cup and came back drinking it before she even asked what we wanted. Then proceeded to drink her coffee whilst serving us! Never a good morning, hello, have a good day! There were six bus loads of tourists arrive while we ate and that seems to be all that Kates is interested in. Quick in and out the door via the cash register.
The Coffee is great, the scones with jam rock, the ice-cream is to die for - lavender, salted caramel, berry ice-cream etc...And buy the jams - they are amazing!
This was a second visit to show a friend. There is an extra toilet now but the septic was still a bit on the nose. Signs are in Chinese (?) as well as English and the "Farm" is more cafe and shop than anything else. The ice cream was delicious on our previous visit.
we visited kate's farm enjoyed ourselves. It is a nice break to sit and have a cup of coffee and the pancakes were delicious
We stopped here for something to eat when we drove from Hobart to the Freycinet peninsula. We had the vegetarian muffins, which were a novel idea and quite tasty but the real treat was the fruit pies. Mine was fantastic! Also has free wifi, friendly staff and a nice view. In all, a great place for a break.
I would recommend anyone who sees this place to keep driving. The owner is extremely rude and arrogant. There were no berries of any kind for sale, despite other berry farms having produce. I expect the tiny number of plants out the front is the extent of the "farm". There was also no "homemade" chocolate for sale, as advertised on the sign on the main road. I overheard her arrogantly telling another customer she was "too busy to make any". I have grave doubts as to how many of the products she sells are actually made at or products of the farm. I purchased the "Raspberry Logs", and unless these are supposed to have a very strong aniseed flavour then they were re-packaged Giant Chocolate Bullets. I set her an email and questioned this and I was told that she "sourced" a lot of her products elsewhere. I did not see any disclaimer for this on her labelling. I assumed I was buying products grown and made on the premises so I felt extremely ripped off. I feel it is incredibly unethical to re-package and label other's products to pass them off as your own, at what I can only imagine would be a very high mark up. A good place to avoid.
A great place for a snack and enjoy the view from your table, delicious ice creams and , scones jam and cream are only part of the delights on offer.
I didn't hold high expectations when deciding to visit the berry farm. I was immediately surprised at what an amazing view it has from the outside eating area. I hade the crepes which were amazing!! Also bought raspberry covered bullets and chi late macadamia nuts, also amazing. Would highly recommend the visit for a coffee and a snack!
My partner and I called in on the way back from wineglass bay.The berry pie was the best We have ever had, the ice cream was delicious and the service was quick and Friendly. We can't wait to go back!
