faisan estate wines

We were pleasantly surprised by this boutique winery aprox 20 kilometres west of Orange. The vineyard may be small but the wines are excellent. We particularly liked the Cabernet Sauvignon, and bought a couple of bottles to cellar. It was hard to play favourites as all the wines were exceptional. The cellar door is only open by appointment but we had no trouble getting in and spending over an hour chatting with Michael the wine maker. His enthusiasm was evident as he took us through each of his wines explaining their unique character and structure. After we purchased our 'goodies' he actually put the labels on the bottles and heat sealed the cork wrappers himself! We had a bottle of 'Gnoo Blas' Sauvignon Blanc for dinner last night and were very glad we did! If you're planning to visit Orange I would definitely try and include Faisan as a must do winery to visit.
