We attended here at 3pm, with one hour before close. 1 hour is far from adequate to enjoy the exhibits here - in all fairness though your $22 admission covers entry for two days... we just didn't have the time. Summer is the low season in the 'outback', of course due to the hot weather, however with 42 degrees 99% of the exhibits are contained within three air conditioned halls. The presentation of the information is very well done, and the venue has obviously benefited from large sums of money and local labour to get going, but what we found, although very informative and well presented, was totally impersonal. In contrast to our experience a few days later in Brewarrina at their cultural centre (which was half the cost), we received personal guidance and personal information. There is no comparison to the venues when it comes to comparing the actual venues, but it's a bit like the difference between a house and a home. I would recommend visiting the Back O'Bourke exhibition centre, but allow yourself time to read all the information contained therein. But if you're going through neighbouring Brewarrina, don't bypass their cultural centre 'because you saw the Bourke exhibition'.
A must-do; make it your first stop! There are friendly staff, tons of information and your trip will be better for it!
It was a good place to spend a few hours learning the history the the river and local area. The shade sails and greenery give it a lushness that is wonderful in such a dry environment. I booked it with a trip on the Darling on a diesel paddle boat that was also a good trip on the water for an hour, lots of birds and an informative guide.
Had a pleasant trip on the Darling river with a very pleasant meal included. The show spectacular was just brilliant on of he funnest entertainer and very quick with one liners. The show was a real experience on that will leave you with an insight to early Australian outback and the personalities.Thank you for such a great experience. Bourke is worth the visit and experienceOne piece of information worth noting you must take off your lens cap of the camera. I know some one who didn't until reminded by the mc
We spent 2 days at the Kidman's Camp, Bourke, a very nice park, and the delux cabin we had was beautiful. Day 1 we did a trip in a bus around Bourke and the driver was very entertaining, showing us all the interesting sites. Next day, we went on a cruise up the Darling River with a stop at the Back O' Bourke Centre where an excellent Outback Show had us all entertained for over an hour. Then a cruise back down the river with a wonderful dinner. I fully recommend Bourke for anyone who wants to see the Australian Outback.
This exhibition centre is excellent in the areas of Bourke history that it covers, with much to learn and absorb. It is full of interactive displays with an excellent layout. A 2 day pass is available for those who want to go back again and there is a cafe onsite for lunches and coffees and Devonshire teas! Excellent value and able to be combined with other attractions thus making it very affordable.
Package with two other activities in Bourke we found the centre very interesting and well done. The outback show was excellent not to missed if in Bourke. The tour of Bourke itself was ok but the regular chap was away and we were put on a tourist bus passing through. Very informative but a few stops were missed that were mentioned on the brochure.
This exhibition is truly inspiring and instructional. Superbly designed and presented. If you are in the outback this will help you to understand the people who came before.
This centre is a must-do. The outback show was fantastic! Luke is a great showman - informative & funny - & his camels, horses, bullocks & dogs are so well trained. Cafe was great, reasonably priced & fresh.
What a sensational visit. We had planned to stop for 2 nights, but after a visit to the information centre, we decided to stop for 3 nights. There was so much to see and appreciate We loved it. The Outback show was entertaining and well worth the time. The Exhibition Centre was state of the art and should not be missed. Go on the local bus tour for an insight into the Cotton Gin industry and take a relaxing cruise down the river on the paddle boat. We also went to 'Poetry on a Plate'..local talent at its best. Don't miss Bourke!!
Only visited during the day and has a coffee in their shop. There was a 'show' happening in the theatre but had no idea what it was and a warning on the door advising only ticket holders could enter. We could not find staff to ask about the show - what it was or how much, ect.
Spent 3 nights camped on the river at Bob's camp, Trilby Station, with 2 other families while in our outback trip. Great spot, friendly hosts, best bathrooms on our whole trip! Telstra mobile phone service was a nice surprise. Our campsite had a nice fireplace, wheelie bin for rubbish, plenty if firewood nearby to gather and a great sandbar for the kids to play in and fish from. Tariff included yabby nets and done bait to get you started, canoes and kayaks, and trip notes for their station mud map drives. Highly recommended.
This is great - an interactive experience to get a feel for the history of this fascinating town. I was impressed by the quality of the experience as well as the friendliness of the staff. And, I found some great information on a relative of mine that lived in Bourke and has a story about him at the exhibition.
We took our family including grand children too see this centre. The entrance price was way out of our budget. Children prices need to be reduced or free. The staff did not mention anything about a "show" so we presumed this was just a static display. Found out about the "show" here on Trip Advisor later. Took a photo of all the kids outside the centre and had to leave without going in.
My husband & I did the Exhibition Centre, the PV Jandra and the Outback Show and it was so well worth every penny. We had a fabulous time. Only one we didn't do was the Mateship Tour but we didn't have enough time.
