A tour of the Frank Partridge VC Military Museum takes you on a journey that leads from the trench warfare of WWI to twenty-first century combat technology. Located in the historic town of Bowraville, its collections cover all of Australia’s armed services and its displays of armoury, uniforms, medals, vehicles, art, publications and memorabilia are the largest on the Mid North Coast. It is a must-see exhibition that brings visitors up close with those who have served Australia since before the days when Anzac became part of our language.Hours: Monday – Friday, 10.00 am – 3.00 pm, Saturday & Sunday 10.00 am – 1.00 pm, or by appointment; guided tours can be arranged. Admission is by gold coin donation.w: militarymuseum.org.aup: (02) 6564 7056 e: enquiries@militarymuseum.org.au

If you are travelling along the north eastern coast of Australia, you must visit a lovely little town called Bowraville. It's not too far inland from Nambucca Heads and is a rare find. The Frank Partridge VC Military Museum is particularly interesting. I'm not one for getting excited about these types of museums, although I did visit the National War Memorial in Canberra some weeks ago. But who can sneeze at the donation admission, so in I went. It was a very extensive museum, and covers all types of servicemen in a number of different wars where Australians were and still are involved. I could have spent all day sitting at a table reviewing a long list of men and women who died in the first and second world wars, as well as lots of very interesting information on war topics, but with all the other rooms to see it was impossible to get the full idea of what people went through. I think that I found it more interesting than the National War Memorial. It was different. You walk through many rooms, each one dedicated to a different war and war service. Then if that doesn't blow your mind, towards the back of the very large building (which used to be the council chambers), you can look through some large windows that overlook a huge shed with lots of very different war vehicles and machinery. The voluntary workers there are very helpful and there are books and things on the different wars and skirmishes that can be bought as you go out. If you are thinking that a donation to see the place is a bit much when you enter, by the time you go out, you feel that it is so worth it that you desire to contribute towards the continuation of the magnificent attraction.I went into the museum with lots of reticent feelings and left feeling that I was very glad that I took the time to go through the Frank Partridge VC Military Museum. For a small town, the locals have done a really great job. It is well worth a visit.

We drove over from Nambucca especially to view the museum and weren't disappointed. It was so well set out and the displays were very interesting. It is run by volunteers and everything was first class, the best that we have ever viewed. One of the volunteers spoke to us explaining lots about what they were doing and we saw what they were restoring too. Excellent, and only a donation required.

Housed in an older building and run by volunteers this is a well maintained and varied collection of Military History. Ask to go downstairs if you are into vehicles etc.
