Driven past a number of times over the years and every time I see this; I get a fit of the giggles. There are some really good things to see in Robertson. But this is NOT one of them. And are you really sure this is a big potato. Looks more like the big turd.......and that is being polite!

This is one of the many BIG articles plastered around Australia to draw the attention of the passing trade but really its just a very large sculpture that represents what this area is quite well known for agriculturally - Potatoes. There are a few other things in the town you can pop in to see and a few nice options for a snack/coffee or meal. Check out Robertson Pie Shop, Pizza's In the Mist, The Pub and the Cheese Factory if in the area. A quick glance is all you need to spend on this large brown tuba.

This wonderful piece of robertson history is a truly amazing piece of art, some people i have spoken to believe it to be better than the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, i for one agree with them. If you are ever in the AMAZING town of Robertson this unbelievable piece of art is 100% worth stopping for and admiring. 11/10 Just enough Potato - IGN

This monument looks more like an enormous stool rather than a potato. The local authorities must surely realise the poor appearance and it must be through a perverse sense of humour and notoriety that it remains in place.

It looks like a big turd, your kids will love it. Robertson was once the centre of a large potato boom. Nobody grows potatoes in the area anymore but at least we have this magnificent reminder.

I think that it is truly miraculous that this potato has grown right in the middle of a prime commercial lot in the middle of this town. It was truly amazing and I cried when I saw it. When you get up close your realize that it is such a special potato that it is not even made out of potato like normal potatoes, but a much harder firmer material. My original plan was to be the first person to climb the mighty potato, thus cementing my name in history as the first guy to do some stuff nobody has done yet - but unfortunately my wife told me I was not allowed to climb the potato. I wish she had told me beforehand. I saw a group of Irish tourists which I can only assume were on a pilgrimage to the potato and there to pray, so perhaps climbing the potato is seen as culturally insensitive and therefore forbidden. The irish people were very angry when I asked if they were here to pray to the potato so please note that it is a special serious time for any pilgrims. Although climbing is banned you are allowed to lick the potato, although I would give this activity a 2/10. It tastes like a mixture of dirt, paint and fiberglass (which alone would be a 0/10) but you can add as much sauce as you like which redeems it to a 2/10. There is a secret door at the back of the potato that may serve as an entry into the underground fortress of the mole people but it was locked so I cannot confirm.

The big Potato has been in Robertson for a long time I think they should come up with something else maybe a Big Pie!

Not worth stopping for or having a close look at. Pity because otherwise this place has some interesting lunch options.

Robertson had such a great history of potato growing, that it is a pity it is commemorated with this ugly thing. My family insisted on photographs!!

You can see it as you drive past, I thought it was just a plain old giant rock. I did not even bother having a photo with it

No need for a stop here - just look at it as you drive past. It is supposed to be a potato but looked to me more like a dark brown Uluru. Needs some maintenance, also some tourist information. Not worth a special visit. Judging by the condition I'd say the locals are ashamed of it.

What can I say ... I mean if you want to drive to Robertson to look at a potato shaped rock then you and I have different ideas of fun. We came through town for other reasons and so had a laugh as we walked past it but I cannot, for one second, recommend that anyone detour even slightly just to see this. If you are in town, however, be sure to drop into the Inn and the Cheese shop.

It only takes 2 minutes to see the Big Potato in Robertson. This is a 10m by 4m concrete Sebago potato built in the late '70s. There is no information about the significance of the Big Potato and its relationship to Robertson. If you are driving along the Illawarra Highway away from the coast, it is on your right-hand side. Get your photo next to the sign, walk around it and you have done the Big Potato.
