I just LOVE the whole garden! It's good to visit the place around spring (September) when the tulips are in bloom! The settings and arrangement of the garden is well planned. It's a PARADISE! It's cheap ($14) considering the FREE unlimited tea/coffee and a voucher for pancakes! Tables and chairs are available. The variety and colours of tulips were stunning... I love going around the garden and taking photos of the flowers (tulips, cherry blossoms etc) and the trees. They also have a small lookout where you can see the whole top view of the garden. You must visit this place and honestly speaking this is better than the Floriade displays at Canberra, not too crowded and parking is available.
We went there in the spring of 2014. The people that own the place have put in a tremendous amount of work to convert the place into a really special place. The tulips are stunning and the people friendly and helpful. As it is on the side of a slope, the people had a bus running to get the less mobile back to the top. They had finger food facilities, as well as tea and coffee and a really good and inexpensive nursery. Highly recommended!!
About 20 minutes north of Canberra, on the Federal Highway, this privately owned garden is only open during Floriade (September/October) each year. Adult entry is $14 and includes a free sausage sandwich (between 11am and 1.30pm) and tea and coffee (all day). They also have cold drinks, Dutch pancakes and a limited lunch menu. The garden has been thoughtfully planned out and planted and is lovingly maintained by the owners. There are tables and chairs at the food tent, or take a picnic blanket and choose a spot to sit and take in this beautiful garden with its shade-giving established trees, gorgeous blossom trees and huge variety of tulips.
Tulip top garden is an absolute beautiful place, definitely worth a visit! I loved it so much that I actually organized my birthday party there. All the guests commented on what a lovely place it is with the beautiful colours and the love music that was playing. The staff there were really lovely, very accommodating and understanding with all the confusion and chaos my party caused. I just wanted to say what a great job they've done and would definitely recommend anyone to visit the gardens and see the beauty for yourselves.
The most beautiful Garden, I have ever seen. Trees are blossoms just on right time with tulips.Day was beautiful also. Sirkka
We visited Canberra for Floriade and were taken by friends to Sutton with the claim "better than Floriade". And they were of course right. We understand the gardens are open for 5 weeks only in Spring. The gardens are beautifully laid out and the fecundity of blooms is unique to this garden. As an avid photographer, I found excellent opportunities to shoot. I only took a 24-105mm on my Canon D6 and would have liked both wider angles with the 16-24 and macro with the 70-200. Had we not been with friends a tripod would have been the go
I went to Tulip Top Gardens today, having already attended Floriade three times. I was blown away by the beauty of the gardens and the ambience was wonderful. Beautiful music could be heard from trees that were a pleasure to stroll/sit under. The gardens are a sight to behold and I ran into the owners, Pat and Bill, who do all of the gardening themselves. I simply can't comprehend how only two people can achieve so much. The artistic layout is apparently courtesy of Bill, whose forbear was Rodin, the famous sculptor. Clearly Bill has inherited his eye. These gardens are worth a LONG trip to see.
We had visited Floriade in Canberra the day before our visit to Tulip Top and this garden was much more interesting and varied. A great range of tulips and all in a very nice garden setting with many lawns and mature trees. Had the sausage lunch which was part of the entry fee and although there were several bus loads of people we didn't have to wait too long for our lunch. The eating area is very well set out in the lawned area. A nice way to spend a few hours just wandering about the garden. Would recommend.
We went to Canberra to see Floriade . It was OK , but I think it could have been a lot better given the resources available etc. Tulip Top Gardens is worth the short drive, flower beds set amongst flowering trees etc. are wonderful, the atmosphere is great, lovely music as you walk around, tables, chairs and places to sit and have a picnic etc. Amenities are adequate and clean. If you have kids and need entertainment/ ferris wheel , playground type things then Floriade is geered up for that, but if you don't go you will miss out on a very pretty place.
Finding the place was a bit of a problem... google maps doesn't seem to have their correct location!Bright, beautiful tulips and cherry blossoms all around. The landscape was very well done.Hats off to the folks who maintain the place.
Absolutely beautiful. The garden is so bright and colourful. So much better the Floriade. Cost is $14 for adults, $13 for seniors and kids under 16 are free. You also get 1 free sausage sandwich with your entry, and there's free tea and coffee facilities. Also available for purchase are cold drinks, cakes, small lunch menu (quiche, salad with ham off the bone, roll/sandwhich, all day breakfast, hot chips and other items), mini dutch pancakes (pofferjes). Recommend taking a picnic as theres plenty of spots to set up a picnic blanket under the trees. There are tables and chairs available near the food tent and live band, however if there is a large crowd you may miss out. Also if you have someone who can't walk around too much, this is a much better option than Floriade, as you can get access with disabled parking close to the garden.Note: there is a small hill to walk down and up from the entry. There is a larger hill to see over the top of the garden. Don't forget your camera, sunscreen and hat (when not under the trees). Also theres plants for purchase and a few small stalls selling paintings and other items. EFTPOS is available as well.
Saying that it is Extremely pretty would be an understatement. There are hundreds of tulips and tens of colors. When you feel that you have had seen all the colors of tulips there will be one more that will strike you. This is a place for you to invigorate your senses. See beautiful colors take some really pretty photos and enjoy your day. Nothing much for young children but for once they can also indulge in the beauty. They have a decent small restaurant to eat which for me was good. It is around 265 Kms from Sydney and definitely worth the trip. I went today and was excited to write the review.
Lovely beautiful setting set amongst private gardens with classical music playing. A bit disappointing as there's no entertainment for the kids compared to Floriade and not even a playground. The food options are Also limited. On the plus side it's lovely for a picnic and beautiful scenery however I probably wouldn't return as there is more to see and do at Floriade.
15 minutes drive north of Canberra, far better than Floriade. Entry was $14 with free sausage s/w and instant coffee. Relaxing and peaceful. Flowers are magnificent set amongst the blossom trees. Take a picnic and listen to the music (check the website for times).
Established in 1997 there are 1000's of bulbs and flowering trees. If you think Floriade is fantastic this will blow your mind. Pack a picnic and relax on the beautiful lawns.
