One of the best tours. Cannot asked anymore.
an amazing day! worth the cost - staff were super friendly and helpful and the scenery is unlike any other. make the trip you wont regret it!
OVERVIEW: This is at the southern point of the Great Barrier Reef, provides good snorkelling, diving and the chance to walk amongst the coral ponds.NEED TO KNOW:1. The plane is VERY small so be prepared (if you suffer from claustrophobia don't go).2. There is a $13.50 parking charge at Hervey Bay Airport.3. You can have a locker (essential in my view) but you'll need $10 (but will get a $5 refund).4. They provide towels and washing materials, shoes for walking amongst the coral and snorkelling equipment5. The glass bottom boat tour with snorkelling was good but once you've done that do you really need to go snorkelling again over the same area?6. The guided walk through the lagoons around the coral was REALLY interesting.7. You receive vouchers for lunch and need to clear away your own dishes.8. Sun tan lotion is provided.9. We had to fly via Bundy both on the way out and the way back which was a bit of a pain after a long day.OVERALL: A great day although it was disappointing that there was no chance of seeing mantas whilst we were there.
A wildlife paradise only 40 min flight from Hervey Bay. Stunning beaches, clear water, good snorkeling, decent bird life and a nice restaurant. Will definitely return!
We were three adults and my 11 year old son visiting from Canada in December 2014. We also flew from Hervey Bay to Lady Elliot Island. We enjoyed the flights (to and from), the experience of the island, it's birds and the water (we snorkeled) - amazing and beautiful. We wished we could stay longer! It was bird nesting season and there were so many beautiful birds, nests and chicks! What a gem of an island experience. We started out with a glass bottom boat tour, then snorkeled. Had a yummy buffet lunch and went back to snorkeling. We missed the reef walk because the water was so beautiful and nice to experience!Snorkeling we saw thousands of small bait fish (they make a neat crackling sound and escape all directions if you come closer), beautiful corals and fish, all gorgeous. But for us the biggest experience were the big turtles. They were so beautiful and not afraid of us. We could swim with them and they let us (very gently) touch them. It was so magical. Hard to put into words. The Lady Elliot resort staff were all very friendly, the snorkeling gear and towels were in good condition and they even provided good, water resistant sunscreen that does not hurt the corals. The food (and coffee/tea/water), lockers and snorkeling gear were all included in the tour.We would recommend this tour - if you can go for more than the one day, stay longer!
I visited this island back in June 2013 with an office colleague and my Mum. We took a flight from Redcliffe airport and they dropped us back home by 5:00 pm. What a beautiful day! I could not take enough pictures of the beautiful scenic flight and the blue waters around this island. It's a gem in the precious great barrier reef. This trip became the highlight of my mum's life who was visiting me from overseas.
We flew from Hervey Bay to Lady Elliot Island on a 10 seater plane. The island is absolutely beautiful. Lots of bird life I've never seen before. We snorkelled in the lagoon off the main beach. The fish were many and varied. We swam with 3 huge turtles-an amazing experience. A day trip isn't long enough but if that is all the time you have then it is still well worth the trip. Staff at the resort were very friendly and the food was....interesting. All snorkelling equipment and towels were provided. Unfortunately we missed the glass bottom boat ride because we were having such a good time snorkelling in the lagoon. Reef walk was very informative and gave you a different perspective on the lagoon reef from snorkelling. I would love to return for a couple of days
Took a 12 seater Cessna from Hervey Bay and enjoyed all stages of the day. At first I thought the day went to quickly but more snorkelling would of caused me to burn, so things seem to be timed really good. Would definitely have booked an overnight if price range was the same. Loved the fact that well maintained snorkelling equipment was included and as many towels as you needed throughout the day.
My wife and I enjoyed one of the best day trips that we have ever had. We took the 2 hour flight on the Cessna caravan 12 seater plane from Broad beach. Our host was Marty who went more than the extra mile to ensure that we had a great time. All the snorkelling equipment was provided in the cost as was the lunch on the Island. The trip on the plane with our very competent pilot was a joy. My wife was very nervous about flying but was put immediately at ease by Marty and the pilot. So much so that she said that she didn't know what she had been afraid of. The facilities on Lady Elliot Island are second to none and it is superb to see the respect shown by the company re the preservation of the Great Barrier reef, whilst enabling visitors to have a brilliant time. This trip can be done from other departure points much nearer the Island if you want. Look up the web site. If you are lucky you will get Marty as your guide. He was a fantastic down to earth bloke with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the reef and its fish. More than that when we returned my wife casually asked about the Versace Hotel in Surfers Paradise. At the end of the day instead of just dropping us off at our hotel as per contract Marty took us and another couple to the Versace hotel for photographs and afterwards left us back to our hotel in his own car. This added another hour to his working day for no extra payment. He is a top drawer bloke and a joy to meet. He made a fantastic day totally unbeatable. Give it a go! you wont get the better of this trip.
Like other reviewers have said one day is not enough, as it's a bit rushed to snorkel, reef walk, tour the island and not enough time to relax and absorb the ambience. So lovely that the island is not spoilt spoilt with development - just one eco lodge style development and a great dining area and superb bar with a magnificent view from the coral beach to the reef. Pure indulgence! It is expensive to stay overnight, but next time we will! Although the plane leaves at 8.10 (but it was late) it stopped at Bundaberg to refuel and take on extra passengers so we didn't arrive on the island til after 10am which was too late to snorkel in the lagoon as the tide wasn't right. The trip on the glass bottomed boat, fish feeding, island tour/history, beautiful noisy birds, and of course the snorkelling from the boat made it a dream day and not to be missed!
These folks put on a fantastic day trip with superb service. We were picked up at the hotel in a limo and driven (35 minutes) to Redcliffe airfield. Our outstanding guide Adam met us there. Went on a spectacular 90 minute flight in a 10 seater Islander twin prop aircraft. Upon arrival picked up snorkel gear and headed out on a glass bottom boat and snorkeled for an hour and a half. Then had a first class buffet lunch with bevvies. We then had two hours at our discretion - snorkeled and walked around this very small but full of life island. Snorkeling we saw everything, all sorts of colourful fish, a giant turtle, a manta ray and a great reef shark ( he was a surprise and a bit close). Then flew back to Redcliffe where a limo awaited and took us back. Tip: wear a shirt when snorkeling, sun tan lotion isn't enough. Outstanding value, first class service, worth every penny of the $ 698 pp. Cudos to Adam.
The island is small and beautiful. Snorkelling was amazing and something I hadn't done before. Instructions were very clear and the reef, fish, turtles and even a small shark were so close. The plane ride was smooth and lunch lovely. I wish we had stayed overnight so we could have enjoyed it all for a bit longer as a day trip flys by.
A day full of fun and excitement (we were lucky it was not raining or cold that day). If you are not used to flying in a small plane be warned and bring a small plastic bag with you. Snorkeling in the clear ocean water (and later in the lagoon) was so exciting. We came very close to a huge manta ray, turtles and lots of colourful fish.Next time we will stay overnight. One day isn't long enough.
amazing day trip including scenic flight and snorkelling - definitely worth to stay overnight, go diving, and just enjoy the island!
The day started with a magnificent scenic flight departing from the Hervey bay airport. The staff at the lady elliot made us feel very welcome. Towels and snorkeling gears are all provided there. The snorkeling and glass bottom boat tours are just amazing!!! The corals are beautiful and lpts of fish!!! We saw a few turtles as well. We have also seen different kinds of birds nestled on this island. There is no courtesy transfer between the accommodation and the airport, so we had to arrange our own transportation. Amd the buffet lunch at the lady elliot resort can be improved. After all, its an amazing coral island that I wish I could go back there one day and spend more time.
