Wondering what all the sugarcane is grown for? Visit the Sugar Industry Museam. Right next to the highway.As my friend grows sugarbeets at home (Europe) we were interested in the way sugarcane is grown, harvested and turned into sugar.All these questions are answered in the museum. Also a glance into the history of the sugarcane industry.We found it very informative.

A group of local Cairns Seniors came with me to enjoy the trip to the Sugar Museum and were all delighted by how much history and detail there was in the displays and restored machinery.For some, this brought back vivid memories of growing up in the area. The comfortable Theatrette showed a film that was a great insight into sugar production. We had lunch at Barracks Cafe which is in the building and there was even market stalls to add to the variety of our day tour. Well worth the stop to learn the story of how the sugar industry has evolved and progressed from hard beginnings that certainly took a toll on the workers.

A very compact but interesting museum with a focus on the sugar industry. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Lots of info and insight in the hard life of the cane grower and cutters.

An interesting museum about sugar cane farming and sugar processing. The really big surprise for me was the black Melanesian workers- our own black plantation! Of over 9000 workers, only 1000 were allowed to stay - what exploitation that was. White Australia Policy at its finest. Shame on us. Place worth a visit to get another perspective about true Australian history.

If you ever wondered why so much of the North Queensland rainforrest was replaced by sugar cane, stop in here for an hour. A very interesting history of sugar in the north. Even has a working cane crushing machine from an old mill, plus lots of other artifacts. Well worth a visit. A nice cafe is in the same building.

Well worth stopping to visit and get a great insight into the sugar world

Haben hier spontan auf der Durchreise einen Stop eingelegt. Dieses Museum vermittelt einen sehr guten Eindruck über den australischen Zuckerrohranbau und wirft auch einen kritischen Blick auf dessen Vergangenheit. Die Eintrittspreise sind absolut in Ordnung und ein Besuch ist zu empfehlen.
