We found this great little winery while actually looking for self pick grapes - and a bit of lunch. Hidden behind the local school, we drove down the driveway and found a beautiful old Queenslander that has been converted into a nice restaurant. Great country decor and we were fascinated by the range of guitars on the wall. The hostess greeted us warmly and explained the lunch menu - much of it dependent upon what was available out of their garden that day - talk about Fresh!! We had chicken pies with a waldorf salad, both delicious. Loved the fresh figs! Also enjoyed a bottle of refreshing Colombard - great on a hot day. Talking to the hosts about the guitars we learned they have music nights - and were treated to a sample of the music he plays and sings...Music from the 70/80/90s. We plan to get back for one of their special music events. We did not see the accommodation so cannot comment on that aspect but definitely would go back and bring friends! We enjoyed chatting with both of our hosts about wine, grapes and the local area. Prices comparable with wineries in the area.
My husband and I and another couple went on the wine and grazing tour. Our first stop was Whiskey Gulley wines. At this stage it was only us four on our bus so we were the only ones there. The old house was beautiful on the outside and the inside was amazing with John's collection of guitars hanging on the wall. We got off on the wrong foot at the start with Denise as we didn't have our tour glasses. Any way that was sorted and we ordered something to eat and settled in to some wine tasting. The wines were very nice. We sat out on the verandah and John came out and sat on the steps with his guitar and sang for us. It was very relaxing and special and the meal Denice prepared was delicious. A great experience we will never forget.
A little tired looking inside house converted into restaurant/tasting bar. Lady who served us knew what she was talking about with wines, but generally, I think that the fact we had visited at the end of the day may have had something to do with her lack of enthusiasm of us being there. Wine was good, and at the end of the day, that's what we went there to try.
