Visited Jersey Girls for the cheese tasting as part of a tour of Stanthorpe - did not stay for lunch but if time had permitted I would have returned the next day. What I liked was the range of cheeses and Stanthorpe district condiments available for tasting - together. Small packets of cheeses were available for purchase so that for minimal cost I could take home a range of cheeses. I particularly liked the ability to taste other products that I was not sure that I would see during the rest of the tour and the facility to purchase these products online once I came home. As with all "cellar dooring", the staff person was able to explain the story behind the name of the products - one cheese in particular!! Thanks.
Looks like it would be a great place for lunch.. Very reasonably priced cheese platters and ploughmans lunches.
Food was great and cheese tasting was a blast. Shop is full of condiments produced on nearby farms. It was nice talking to shop owners too.
At the start of the counter there is a sign asking patrons to please wait for our staff to cut the cheese for you. This is for health reasons and all our staff are trained to ask customers not to cut their own samples. This is for your safety.
This is so worth going a little off the beaten track. We shared a ploughman's lunch and the gentleman that served us said to let him know if we wanted anything more on our plate! Now that doesn't happen very often. We asked for more blue cheese and chutney - no problem at all. The great coffees were a terrific surprise. Thanks for a lovely cheese tasting experience and great hospitality.
Stopped in for a quick browse on the Saturday and the staff were so helpful and the cheese was great. We noticed the menu and decided on short noticed to pop in for morning tea on Sunday. We were a large group of adults, young adults and children. I walked into the small eating area and noticed the only large table was reserved. A gentleman greeted me with a cold stare and asked if I was eating replied yes with a group of 13. Response was "well have your ordered"? Obviously not as there were not tables. Obviously this was going to be tough for him. Still standing there another staff member asks how many after looking around at tables which sat two or three another staff member asked again, removed reserved signs and finally we sat down. Order taken and whilst the milkshakes were great, the cake on offer is limited and or average standard. After waiting 45 mins I got up and asked where our coffee was, still coming, ten minuted later I asked for take away as the rest of our group had eaten and finished and we needed to head on. We will not be back.
My daughter and myself love cheese, so it was on our must do list to visit here. We weren't disappointed. We tried a variety of cheeses and the process of making them was explained in great detail. It was good to see that the staff obviously enjoy where they work as they were polite and it wasn't a problem to answer any questions we asked. The cheeses were divine - smooth, creamy, the texture and taste was divine. We bought every variety on offer as well as a beautiful camphor laurel wood cheese/chopping board which was very welled priced for the quality of the board. They also have other local products for purchase - olives, condiments, flavoured oils and vinegars and juices. We had intended to visit Mt. Stirling Olive farm to purchase some olives but they were closed when we visited but I was able to purchase the products I was wanting right here.Thank you for such a kind reception and your contribution to our cheese tasting an experience we will not forget. Tricia & Danielle.
Our cheese tasting experience was exciting 7 cheeses to ooh and ahhh over - tiny tiny tasters- and the Camembert was crawling across the counter -none of the cheeses were covered. We lunched but were only offered water - microwaved pizza - bit of a flat note - but the other meals were amazingly delicious ploughmans lunch highly recommended . We purchased 7 additional items and were over charged . The table next to us were served by a staff member whilst on her phone ! Just saying - interesting .
we are currently training a new junior. Obviously she was left alone for a moment and is not up to the front of house job yet. Our apologies.
Hi Anjja, thanks for your review. We're just coming to the end of our summer vegies in our garden but we have some interesting winter vegies planted. I'm not sure what to do with broad beans yet.
We stopped here to try the cheese, which was all so yummy. We liked the majority of it and have a blue sitting in our fridge waiting to be consumed. The milkshakes are amazing too and well worth a try. The cafe has all local produce from their garden and surrounding area and would recommend sitting down for a meal.
If you love cheese, the Granite Belt Dairy Farmhouse is a must during your stay in Stanthorpe. There are plenty of varieties to taste and as well as a number of local olive oils. The cheeses are creamy and luxurious...nothing like the supermarket products and the service is friendly and helpful.
Our group of 7 were in total agreement that this cafe was the highlight of our 4 day Stanthorpe holiday. The staff were friendly, fun and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed every moment of our time there. The food was excellent....we decided to order and share every main meal and every dessert. Also, the milk drinks - for those who like milk drinks - were delicious, and creative.
I do not know why the café is included in reviews for the cheese as they are quite separate even though in the same address. The cheese was very tasty with lots of varieties, along with Tapenade pickles and chutneys salamis a great tasting pot of goods. A great spot to go, lots of tourist attend and very popular. The café I have reviewed separately as I think it deserves their own spot.
We had an early lunch at Jersey Girls mid week and were so impressed: the cafe fit out is lovely - very 1920's Stanthorpe style (as seen in the fab museum in Stanthorpe), great menu, superb ingredients. The cheese souffle had been recommended - we had to pace ourselves as we were heading to Suttons for their famous apple pie, so shared the souffle which comes with an intelligently put together salad - flavours were nicely balanced. Don't even try to resist the fresh jersey milkshakes from the girls in the paddock outside. We want to come back when we have more time to work our way through the rest of the menu -a real surprise,as we were only expecting basic cafe fare. There is an A frame sign on the Amiens Rd pointing in to the dairy but it doesn't include reference to the cafe, which can confuse you. But they are in the process of redesigning signage and the dairy facade, which is very rustic and gives no hint of the treasure inside. The local council apparently has banned directional signage on the highway, from which they would really benefit. It really makes the Thulimbah area a foodies destination now, with Vincenzo's, Suttons, and the Heritage cellar door in the old church all at or near the main crossroads of the highway and Amiens Rd.A quality act ladies!!!!!
