This museum is based in several Nissan huts next to main air base. It has a really interesting range of displays which anyone interested in flight will love.My two boys aged 11 and7 loved the hands on air traffic control display and listening to the live ATC for Townsville airport. There were so many items packed in a small place. It is really suffering from a lack of funding but it also adds to it's charm. It would not seem as authentic in a big hangar. There are some outdoor displays but as it was raining we did not linger outside. There were only a few but seemed good. What really made it for us were the volunteers who brought it to life and gave the boys endless attention. They were great. There is a small shop with very reasonably priced books and gifts and all proceeds help the museum. The only negative is the car parking. There is none. You have to park outside on a very busy road. Take care. All in all a great place to spend an hour or so.

Was great to visit and see old photos and memorabilia of a great workplace and old colleagues.... A tour of the Fire Station was the highlight

Very informative great displays. Just goes to show how important Townsville and Australia was in WW2.

Great experience, can learn a lot in this Museum and also had a good amount of exhibits to look at, would go back again.

This museum has grown in size and quality over recent years and is a credit to the volunteers who do all the work. If you are interested in Townsville air force history at all this museum is well worth a stop for a few hours.

Townsville is one of the oldest and largest RAAF and USAF air bases of WWII. The museum houses much memorabilia from that time together with a wonderful photographic history. There are many full size displays of guns, planes and other exhibits too many to mention.

We were the first to arrive on Sunday morning and we ask at the shop about the museum. The staff provided lots of information about Townsville and the current air force base (last remaining of many). We experienced friendly conversation and many tips about hidden gems in and around the museum and Townsville area that we would have missed without being told about, all in all a really interesting visit, air conditioned, good displays and wonderful stories about what life was like in Townsville in years gone by...

We were the first to arrive that morning and we popped in first to ask about parking. We were welcomed and given lots of information about the air base as well as the museum. As in a number of places there was friendly conversation and a real interest in what we ourselves thought about the displays and how it compared to our expectations. We were informed that the Army museum would be closed as they open on opposite days throughout the week. This is a small museum but it is very well laid out and the staff there were very informative and approachable. I am not sure that young children would find it interesting however older children would learn a lot form the displays and the staff.

The museum is only 10 mins drive from the city heart and borders on the active RAAF base. It constructed and manned by volunteers who are mostly ex air force. The exhibits are extensive and even include old aircraft. A great half day attraction to visit.

We visited the Museum whilst in Townsville in May. Enterance is Free, which is wonderful, I did not mind it. But my husband was very disappointed. Firstly the shop, there is hardly any stock in it. Postcards would not go astray. My husband said they could really make it more interesting. Mainly photos and models, are in this museum and some photos we noticed were double up. But o.k.

Outside these buildings seem unattractive, BUT walk inside & the images, memorabilia, personal stories & possessions, and Much more tug right to your heart strings. Not only do the friendly Volunteers provide you with endless stories & in formation, they are so welcoming. They also fought for our Country so they are personally devoted to sharing the Museum history. To have undergone such fatigue, hardship & tiresome Aussie battles makes me feel so humble & proud to have stood before those photo's to admire everything that they stood and still stand for. They have a library packed full of books, historical records and more .It's a donation entry & the gift shop sells wonderful cloth badges, books, maps & miniature planes etc at very low prices. If you're interested in the past, planes or just want to explore, this is worth every second that you spend there. It only opens two days a week at specific times.
