We could only swim in a few spots here, we were worried about the strong current. Definitely a beautiful place that i enjoyed swimming in. The walk up is flat and paved.

A lovely ( although strenuous walk) to the top of the gorge. It can take up to 50/60 minutes each way with a few big hills. The path is concrete so an easy walk. Most fitness levels could do it.

The turn off for Behana Gorge is just south of Gordonvale along Behana Gorge Rd. This is generally a shady walk following the pipeline along a sealed road running parallel to the gorge. Only 3.5km to the end with some gentle ups and downs as you climb higher towards the top of the gorge. There are plenty of spots on the way to access the water if you don't feel like a workout on the hills though. You can have shower at the top where the fenced council pipe flows back into the river or you can scramble down to bottom easily to find a safe spot to swim.Always a beautiful place to spend some time.

We didn't anticipate the long walk until we actually reached the water, but my Lord was it worth it! Would recommend to anyone!

It's not an easy place to find, but it's worth the effort to do so. Go south of Cairns, turn right onto Behana Gorge Road and simply drive to the end. You'll end up at a pump station with an asphalt path and pipeline leading away from it. Just follow the path. It's quite steep in some places and you need to be reasonably fit as it is about a 3.5km walk in. Having said that there were people of all ages and all types of footwear encountered along the way. It is a steep climb down to the waterhole at the end, but once you are there you will stay for hours. Just beautiful. Cold, clear and refreshing. The walk back feels down hill although there are still a couple of good inclines to cover. Worth the effort.

apart from the ordeal to get there it is well worth it, love the walks though the little one struggled a bit but not pressed for time so took it easy, recommend the insect repellant though!!!

It's a bit of a trip, but significantly better than Crystal Cascades (larger, more scenic, quieter), and light years ahead of that tourist trap Mossman Gorge!! Uphill 2km walk in, but the swim at the waterfall a the top make it all worthwhile. Nice drive there too.

I have been here 4 times. Also, I have been to pretty much every big nature spot around Cairns and this is hands down my favorite. The walk in is great exercise. People usually comlain the walk in the first time, and then take it all back when they arrive at the gorge (make sure you have about a liter of water each, and you can refill directly from the waterfall once you arrive as it is a water suply). So many jumps of all sizes, water is nice and cool and it is just so utterly beautiful. It's hard to spend less than 4 hours here so a picnic is a good idea. If you are a morning person with lots of energy, you can goto Josephine falls first (way better early in the morning before all the tours show up) or climb the pyramid which is next to the entrance of Behana Gorge Rd. You will never forget BG if you go!

If you love walks with lots of hills. 3.5km of them will get that off your Wishlist. The waterfall was nice. The swim and dives off the cliff fantastic... The March flies sucked. Overall, did it. Wouldn't do it twice. There are plenty nicer walks in cairns worth doing again.

A turn off the main road at Behana Gorge Road takes you to a small car park. The sign says "3.2 KM walk with slight incline at the end. That is SOOOO understated!. The walk is along a concreted path fit for cars but the undulating inclines are wicked. Only good walkers should attempt this. At the end you are blessed with the most amazing waterfalls, swimming holes and scenery. We also went to Mosman Gorge and Behana puts that to shame. We saw snakes, wallabies and plenty of other wildlife too.

Something of everything in Queensland: beautiful waterfalls, hikes, quaint shops, great coffee, interesting exhibits.

A friend and I went here for a leisurely walk! Was SO worth the walk and the climb down the water was fresh! The scenery was beautiful!! There was march files when we went but they didnt bother us too much! A must have when going here is good walking shoes, sun screen and probably something to eat because there isnt any shops or anything near by! One of the most beautiful places I have ever visited! Beware the walk is pretty long and there are hills and rocks that you will need to climb down if you want to go swimming!

Perfect spot to go for a walk, enjoy the waterfalls and go for a swim in the pools. 25-min trip from Cairns city and worth the drive... It isn't well marked which is probably a good thing. When we went we were the only ones on the trail which added to how nice it was :)

Beautiful spot for a walk. Not too steep or stressful with plenty of spots to cool off on the way. Great anytime of the day
