We went in September and it was a very nice experience. It quenches the curiosity factor and allows for quiet contemplation as well. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was nice to see the caves. Looking great and a nice light show to bring forward the best parts. The only down part is that you could only enter by guided tour. The tour takes a long time, about 1,5 hours, to see the caves. We would have preferred an unguided tour, at your own speed. As there is not that much to see in these caves. But is was informative and a nice tour guide. Luckily he told me near the end of the tour about all the huge spiders in there.....
Nice place to visit, way to hot in summer though. Inside the caves n the cathedral was amazing but I think you've seen it once you wouldn't go back for a while.. My family swam in the pool n all ended up sick.
Capricorn Caves is an extremely well built and thought out tourist attraction and for anyone looking for a clean, efficient and overall day trip or overnight experience. Capricorn Caves offers well guided tours through the caves, a beaut coffee shop/cafe, souvenier shop, scientific knowledge of the caves and interesting information regarding the local area. Camping sites and cabins are also available.
We traveled there in our holiday at Yeppoon, was a quite warm day in January, so we decided to visit this caves to get some impressions if they are same line as we know from Germany? We've been late so we checked in for the last tour, we got our private guided tour!! It was impressive! When you know the bottom of the accessible cave is only 5 meter under car park level and you have this constantly cool temperature. I think it was Linda a very professional and knowledgeable guide!! Very recommendable!!
The tour guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the access around the caves was very good considering its a cave. My girlfriend is an amputee and managed to get around easily enough, although there are some very slippery bits to watch out for. The cathedral was the highlight and the gift shop we found to be one of the best we went to in Australia. Highly Recommended for a visit if your in the area.
Good tour with Linda. Very professional, and great with two very lively children. Tour last 1.5 hrs , lots of information and caves were very interesting.
We had a great visit. The information area sets the scene for the visit with all the history both recent and in its geological formation. Our guide Lynda was great and was able to answer all the children's questions, whilst being very informative and interesting for the adults of all ages in the group. We were shown the last of the summer solstice light beam and the children all got to hold the reflecting globe for photo's. The cathedral cave was spectacular and a visit to the twice yearly opera performance would be an experience as the acoustics are good. The highlight was squeezing through the zig zag passage at the end Lynda knows why it will be talked about forever and we all now know what cave dark is!!
We visited these caves last year in September and we were totally surprised by the tranquility and beauty of this place. They are no so far from Yeppoon (where we were staying) and we actually had a beautiful scenic country side drive while going to these caves. The tour guide was a very nice lady who managed the whole tour very professionally. I am glad we did this tour as it is one of its kind.
... and a great tour! It was special to have the chance to walk through these sandstone caves. The tour is informative and interesting, also for kids. The caves are located a 30-min-drive north of Rockhampton and doable in an easy half-day trip.
Capricorn Caves was an absolute hidden gem. We had never heard of the caves until we saw a road sign about 50km north of the turn off. Dogs are not allowed but we were able to find a local dog kennels for doggy day care and we headed off to the caves the next morning. We missed the 11am tour of Cathedral Cave so settled in for coffee and toasted sandwiches while we waited for the 12pm tour.At 11:30am a tour guide came out and asked who wanted to see a special feature of the cave system. At the time of the summer solstice each year the sun shines directly through a vertical shaft (left from when a tree root rotted away) directly into the caves. It is apparently the only place in the Southern Hemisphere where this happens. It was as if we got two tours for the price of one.Julie loved the swimming pool that is available to paying guests, so we were able to while away a few hours there as well.Tour guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. An absolute must if you are passing through Rockhampton!
AN excellent place to stop over and get a quick adventure in for the family. Make sure you take the Mozzie spray!! OMG that were bad. Staff are friendly. Was a very quiet place to stay with beautiful sky views in pitch black.
We camped for the night and did the Adventure Tour. Both were excellent. The camp facilities are some of the cleanest I've ever experienced. Everywhere is beautifully kept and cared for, the staff are so very friendly and helpful. The adventure tour was top notch, the guide was excellent. Loved the challenging bits, crawling through tunnels etc - so much better than I thought it would be. Worth every penny and more. The Cathedral is awesome - a visitor put his hand up to sing and he had an amazing, powerful voice - sent shivers up my spine, with the acoustics, candlelight etc. Then they played Amazing Grace and lit the cave in various ways throughout - totally magical. Congratulations to the owners and staff on this very well run place. Don't miss it.
Great tour in very beautiful caves. HIghlight was the Summer Solstice . Tour guide entertaining and very pleasant. Would recommend
Beautiful dry cave system presented by a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Well worth the visit.
