I went on their 'Marathan Ride' 10.30-4.30 We set off from the stables, which are set in wonderful countryside. When I say we, it was only Helen the guide and myself. Pretty soon we were surrounded by wonderful eucalyptus forests, the clouds cleared and the sky was blue. The forest is wonderful, the fresh breeze, wafting eucalyptus in the air. We even saw a red bellied black snake, slither off into the woods. We sat down in the shade for a sandwich lunch and enjoyed the forest. Back up into the saddle the wonderful forest ride continued. Then down to the beach for the last hour or so. The beach stretches for a few kilometres so we were able to enjoy quite a few canters along the waters edge. It was a long day in the saddle, but I enjoyed every minute and wouldn't hesitate to go back to Blazing Saddles for another ride. Very friendly people, oh and the horses, well looked after. I rode Dallas, who kept up his energy right to the end and was lovely ride, really comfortable and gentle and well behaved. A real treat.
Took the wife for a ride. Been a very long time. The staff are very freindly and the horses are amazing . Such great views from mountain. Would definatly be back.
If you are novice or experienced horse rider this is a must, the staff are helpful, knowledgeable and very down to earth and patient with novice riders.
looking to give the kids some variety on holidays or the weathers plainly just too cold for the beach then htis is a great option.Trail riding, lessons and trips into the bush for novices, learners and beach rides for the more experienced. We took our kids many times over the years and got to see Blazing Saddles as part of our holiday ritual.....
Very beautiful place especially if you like horses. As my 5 year old did. Very well knowledge people very busy business too. Clean toilet aswell which is a huge tick. Only down side no food in café. Great 7 dollar pony ride and it was more special that I actually led the horse. Dad and daughter moment.
I brought down my nieces and nephews for some pony rides and lessons. The pony rides are for children 7 years and under and the lessons for any age as long as they can sit up and listen whilst being on a horse! The smiles on all their faces where priceless. Blazing saddles is a beautiful place for kids to learn about horses. The staff where so helpful and seemed just as enthused as the kids! As an experienced rider it was really nice to see the lessons taught in a way that was a perfect combination of safety/skills and fun.... I remember being screamed at by instructors when I was a child!!The horses are in great condition! Shiny coats with big round bellies and rumps! Not your typical ribs poking out trail horses.
Had so much fun, guides were great, the trip was easy going, the ride was exciting, and all the positives out weighed the sore rear end :-) highly recommend!!!!
Purchased the two day ride from Groupon considering the "value" was over $1000 I decided to book the trip for two. Firstly there is no itinerary sent so the only information provided was the arrival time. We headed off for a ride Saturday morning at 10am and arrived that late afternoon in Dean's Marsh. It looked good on arrival however to discover no showers (not advised) and no running toilet. The tents were infested with mould and were told that cattle on the property had ran over them before a fence was placed around them. As being told it was fully catered for we luckily purchased some snacks and thankfully we did. Snacks on arrival was stale water crackers and one serving of dip for 8 people. There was no esky for drinks (warm) and the food for dinner was placed in a chunk of ice im sure against food safety guidelines. Dinner was worse only one hamburger (frozen variety from the supermarket) per person cooked on a dirty skillet probably left over from the previous 2day trip. As there was nothing to do all went to sleep at 9pm. In the morning there was no milk for coffee and burnt toast was cooked over the fire for breakfast. We all left at 9am many wanting to leave earlier as they wanted to get home to Melbourne earlier as we were not informed of our arrival time back to Blazing saddles. As lunch was provided in our way back to blazing saddles the group couldn't believe it went lunch consisted of snack sized crackers and cheese, Apple and a bottle of water! We thought someone would meet us and provide us with lunch- that was not going t happen. We finally rode along the beach (the only beach ride for the weekend) and hour before we returned to blazing saddles. Not only were the staff in the trip rude on many occasions this trip could be so much better if the owners and the staff cared. I have never written a review before but the trip was so disappointing !To the owners please;Provide a detailed itinerary for guestsProvide more food and better qualityInclude a ride along the beach to and from Dean's MarshPurchase new tentsInclude some activities at night for guests- you have many international guests and would love to learn so much about our wonderful country and most of all Great Ocean Road!
I have done trail rides in several parts of the country and the beach section of this ride has to be one of the longest available. I went in October on a fine day, but being still a little cool there were not many people around. Speaking to the trail leader, apparently in summer sometimes you cannot canter as it is unsafe for people on the beach - that would be a huge let down, so try and go around October or on a quiet day.The bush part is nice, but definitely try for a beach ride!Horses were lovely and looked in good health. The only thing I would suggest is for the people to be a little bit more welcoming and focus on customer service. At the end of the ride, she charged me $150 and told me where to put my boots/helmet and didnt even really say anything else. I asked to buy a bottle of water from the 'cafe' (not a cafe) and all they had were push top blackcurrant juices for kids. They should at least stock water. Tip: Dont take a big camera, or water bottle as they do not have saddle bags.
I was on the overnight ride during October, and it was definetely one of the best weekends of my life! the landscapes you enjoy while riding are really good, and the staff was really funny, trying to help everyone out with their horses and demonstrating how to cook in a campfire when the oil is getting burned. The sunset in the camp was amazing and I galloping on the beach were the best 10 minutes of my large riding horses experience. Caroline helped me out ofering one of their staff to pick me up from Geelong train station because I didn't have a car.I recommend the experience a lot!
My first time going to blazing saddles was awesome and exciting!!! My Kids loved it... I thought we had such an awesome experience that I wanted to share it with my family. so I booked it again with 10 of my family members. Just to pay $350 and got ripped off we didn't even do half of the trail ride!!!I asked why ain't we going to the look out and She was speechless and shocked cos she didn't realise that I've done the ride before. We traveled 1hour and 40min to get to blazing saddles. She came up with a lame excuse saying it's not good for kids and yet they done it the first time round. Her attitude was rude and disgusting the way they spoke to me and my family!!! What was meant to be an awesome day out turned out to be the most downgrading family day out will never recommend this place to anyone!!!!! just think I if didn't go there the first time i wouldn't of even known that we've been ripped off!!!
Blazing Saddles was a great choice for a trail ride on the Surf Coast. The horses were well cared for, equipment good and the location is stunning with beautiful bush and beach views. Most of all our instructor was an excellent teacher with very simple yet effective instructions for the beginners from how to hold your reins, sit on the horse to how to trot. The ride takes you along country roads and through national park with a view over the ocean. It is a slow ride so with several bouts of trotting along the way so if you're wanting to canter/gallop you should ask for a level up. We're looking forward to progressing to the intermediate ride on the beach!
Catered for our beginner children perfectly. They enjoyed time with the horses and resident dog who loved to play catch. Instructor guided them soundly and all came back with a touch of butt ache and confident big smiles. Little ones also accommodated with pony rides and the experienced rider can go for a inland or surf side explore. Reasonably priced! Experienced careful. staff? Well done Blazing Saddles !
We opted for a scenic bush trail ride as part of our Great Ocean Road drive itinerary and Blazing Saddles did not disappoint. Despite being only the second time I was on horse back without someone tugging on the reins, I felt confident and comfortable with the whole experience. Prior to the ride, you will need to fill up a questionnaire to assess your riding experience. Best not to lie as this will determine the horse you are paired with. After a short lesson on horse handling, we were on our way. The horses are well trained and most were well behaved except for one or two that were a bit more "cheeky".We opted for the 1hr 15min bush trail ride (classified as a beginner's ride). It took us through the bush, slight up hill to the hilltop before making our way back to the stables. Experienced riders were allowed to canter up/down hill while the non-experienced would wait at the top/bottom to watch them. My partner and I went on two rides with Blazing Saddles. The first we took our two children with us on the Beginner 1 1/4 hour ride. Upon arriving we were greeted enthusiastically and given instructions. I was a little concerned when I found many of the boots were gumboots, being a rider myself, but found the grip had been sanded off them making them safe for riding in.After getting ready the guide then gathered everyone for a short lesson on the basics and safety information. Having brought my children along, I found this very reassuring as I have been to many other establishments where no instructions are given and riders are left to fend for themselves.Following this we were allocated a horse suited to our ability. The guide clearly knew the horses well and did a great job matching horse and rider. My daughter rode "Leroy" and my son rode "Sully" and both horses were very well trained and did a wonderful job looking after our children (highly recommend these two horses for children!). My partner rode "Bob" and wanted to take him home! I rode "Indy" who had a little more spunk suited to my ability perfectly. On the ride another lesson was given on how to trot - I loved this as it made it easier for my children to learn and therefore made it more enjoyable. The staff also paid extra attention to those who were learning in the first few trots, to make sure everyone got the hang of it - like having private lessons as well as a trail ride, I was impressed. My kids had a ball and frequently ask when we can return! Our second ride we left the kids with family and the two of us went on a more experienced ride, the 2 1/4 hour bush ride - we had caught the bug! Great fun with lots of long canters and luckily we only had very experienced people with us so we got to go flat out a few times, great adrenaline rush. There is a 'cafe' there but unfortunately it now only serves cold drinks and snacks - unfortunate as a coffee would have been perfect to finish up a cold but fun day! Will be back soon, thankyou!
