This zoo is the most lovely zoo we have seen so far in our travels, the animals are so well kept, its soooooo clean, the dishes were clean and picked up after the animals were fed, all water bowls were clean and fresh water in them. animals had shade and sun, and the variety of animals for a small zoo, that gets NO Govt handouts, was just amazing. Treat yourself to seeing this zoo, you wont be sorry.
Hi ErinookeIt's a shame that you didn't speak with us on your way out and we would have been able to explain to you the eagle's stories. Both eagles are rescue birds that had been hit by cars and are unable to fly normally and as such are unsuitable candidates to be released back into the wild. Their enclosure is 25mx5mx7m and exceeds best practice standards and we have used the netting walls so they can't hurt themselves when they attempt to fly. Prior to coming to us they were being housed in enclosures the size of a garage with solid walls (one of them had been in that situation for 20 years). Even though their enclosure is well and truly sufficient to their needs we would also love to be able to extend it as funds become available so if you are able to donate or raise $15,000 we would be able to add an extra 20 metres to their enclosure.
It was quite the day we visited and it felt like we had the Zoo to ourselves. We were please with how clean the enclosures were.A good range of animals,a pleasant way to spend an afternoon
It is awesome having such a large zoo with so many animals in the Grampians. We love spending a day there, and everytime we visit there is something new.
We recently took our 3 year old son here, it was surprisingly big, and a great variety of animals! Very friendly staff. Only disappointing thing was that the cheetahs weren't on display! We only found that out after walking to the enclosure. Got to see the alligator being fed which my son loved :)
When you are visiting Halls Gap I highly recommend a visit to this zoo. This zoo is involved in endangered animal breeding programs and they are doing a wonderful job. The zoo is well laid out and you get a great close up view of all the animals. It was great to see the cheetahs so close. You also may feed the deer and wallabies here as well which was an awesome experience.
Wow!! This is an awesome place to visit. Its one of the best zoos I have been to. It's clean and well kept. Visitors get to walk amongst some of the animals and get up close and personal. Definitely worth a visit, and not expensive.
The little kids and the big kids loved the zoo, very family friendly, lots to look at and was great being able to touch some of the animals
We visited this Zoo while our son was doing work experience here and really enjoyed our visit. The animals are so well cared for, the park is very attractive, well maintained and spacious and the staff are helpful and knowlegable.
All in all the Zoo itself was fun, my 3 year old had a ball. My main concern was when we were walking though the kids play area near the alligator incloser and I happen to spot a 5 - 6 foot brown snake right In front if me. I went and brought this to the care takers attention and she happen to say they don't worry about removing the snakes as once they move one another will just come and take its place. I feel this is quite dangerous as they don't warn you at all when you go in that there is a possibility of wild snakes roaming around. I understand that we are in the bush were snakes do roam around, but it would just be a lot better for the public were notified of the possibility. If my son had got bitten or even myself being pregnant, they would have had a law suit on there hands. Please still go to this zoo as it's still a lot of fun for adults and kids, but just take extra care for wear you walk.
Had an excellent four hours at this zoo and was pleasantly surprised with it's array of animals and deceivingly large layout. While it may not have the facilities of other larger zoos, it certainly is a great park which compares favourably with Healesville sanctuary which I visited two days earlier. Much wider array of animals than expected and there are plans for more in the future. We arrived early at the 10am opening time when many of the animals were eating or had just finished doing so which ensured that they were quite active. Definitely worth a visit!
Had a fantastic 4 hours here and kids still raving about it 4 days later! Face to face with 2 cheetas was something else. You couldn't possibly be any closer to animals. This is a fantastic zoo and shouldn't be missed!
This is a wonderful place to visit when in Halls Gap. It's not overly big but you will need at least 2 hours (took us 3 hours) to see all of the enclosures. The work undertaken by this zoo is amazing - they are involved in numerous breeding programs of endangered animals, and they are doing it without any government funding. The entrance price of $24 for adults could not go to a better cause. Kids (and big kids) can feed certain animals, deer roam the grounds freely which is a real treat. There is no coffee/lunch facilities (you need to bring your own or have eaten before hand) but you can buy cold drinks/ice creams.
I came here 2 weeks ago with my partner while we were visiting the Grampians for the day as it's close by. Definitely my favourite zoo I've been to so far , all because you can actually touch and feed some of the animals , the wallabies and deer are not in enclosures , they are roaming around with you. To be honest the rest of the zoo isn't amazing and isn't the most attractive set out zoo , compared to Melbourne zoo which is bigger and looks nicer. The animal feed you can buy on entry is very cheap too only $2 a bag which was enough for 2 adults feeding. The wallabies are very cautious of going upto you to take food , but after persistence kneeling down eventually they will come over and feed. The deer on the other hand are greedy and are not shy at all.Brilliant for kids or anyone who loves animals just to have that experience of being so close to the animals.
This is a pretty small zoo, entry fees are around $24 per adult. They have multiple places where you can do your own bbq which is a nice feature. Plenty of peacocks around to nibble on your food and keep the kids entertained.
