We stopped here in the morning (around 10) and there was just no koala. Was it because of the morning, or because the camping was full (long WE) and certainly noisy ?Better go to Ottway Cape !

Although it was not quite what I had imagined, it was a great experience. Heard many stories that it is often difficult to spot a koala. It wasn't and this was my first attempt to view the cute, furry little guys. As you become more oriented with their shape & colouring it becomes easier to spot them. If you're on the the GOR, take the time to stop, it's 30 seconds of the road.

We had a great time here. Yes it does get a bit crowded right by the main parking area and the koalas there were up in the trees sleeping so drove about 3 km further up the track to a lovely picnic area where we watched one koala climb down from his tree and amble through the bush right in front of us. Also watched an echidna scrabbling about in the dirt almost by our feet. Back at the main area there are also lots of parrots that you can feed. And the best thing is - it's FREE! One warning: don't buy coffee at the store - it's atrocious, wait until you get to one of the towns further down the road.

This is just a spot off the GOR. You can park along the dirt road next to the campground and across from the road cafe. Tour busses stop here, so it's not hard to spot the Koalas. Just move to the clumps of people. If you have a desire for some privacy, keep heading up the dirt road into the Park. Plenty of Koalas to see.

The first koala was asleep in a bush in a garden a mere 20 metres form the great ocean road. That one was easy to spot but these sleepy creatures are difficult to spot - until you get your eye. An echidna shuffled about a few hundred metres up the road and there were squads of brightly coloured birds. Walk further, be patient and there is an abundance of wildlife. There was a small cafe in the place and a large campsite and plenty of people surfing.

We stopped here as we had read about it previously on Tripadvisor and we weren't disappointed. The area is beautiful, with a fishing area and landscaped sections where you can sit and eat or just enjoy the bird life. Across the car park next to the small shop there are some trees and there were two koalas sitting in them, one so close you could have touched it. We visited in the morning and they were both awake and eating which was amazing to see. Around those trees were lots of brightly coloured birds who are clearly used to being fed because they landed on us as we took photos of the koalas. We did have seed with us so this made a great photo opportunity, they were very gentle too, no nipping! Once we had finished there and made a quick bathroom stop (in the caravan park, nice and clean) we drove up Grey River Road which is just past where the birds were and up a steep hill, this is where the koalas were, we spotted seven in total but didn't have to drive very far to see them. I'm sure if we had continued we would have spotted more. You have to let your eyes become acclimatised to the trees and then just look for dark areas, these are usually koalas. Some were asleep but there were several eating. We also were treated to king parrots and a fluffy kookaburra sitting on a branch as if he owned the whole forest! This place is well worth a visit, take a few minutes out and you never know what you might see.

We did stop and saw a couple of Koalas but I expected a bit more from this, especially since we missed the turn and had to come back. If this is your only chance to see them, be sure to stop. There is no fee.

Took our American friends here and after photographing a number of koalas high up we came across one koala that was low enough in a tree that allowed us to stand beside it and take photos. Located directly across from the roadhouse at the first house on the right amongst a stand of gum trees. Plenty there and you too might strkie it lucky.Visit the roadhouse for food and bird seed in case birds come.Highly recommended. We backtracked from Apollo Bay to do this before heading back.

This is a short dirt road where there are people wandering around aimlessly staring into the trees looking for koalas and only finding one or two. There are many other places on the GOR that you can stop where you can see many more koalas. This is not worth the visit in my opinion.

Kennet River turned out to be only a short drive from where I was staying in Wangara. I ended up seeing several Koalas in the trees next to the parking lot, including watching two of them mating, it was a pretty incredible scene. You need to be patient and lucky!

Firstly, it's a drive, about 10km return, not a walk, and it's on an unsealed road so if you've got a hire car you need to look at the terms and conditions.You'll see plenty of parrots at the start of the road but you'll probably need to drive a couple of kilometres up the hill before you spot koalas. They seemed to be fairly common, we found some just about every time we stopped to look. Actually, what you see most of the time is koala backsides as the animals tend to be high up in the trees. Sometimes though they'll be perched in a tree downslope from the road and you'll have a good view of them. The nice thing about koalas is that they don't run away when you stop to look at them, so if you see a car stopped by the roadside the koala will still be there when you've parked and got out and have a look, and probably still there an hour later when you come back down the road..We also saw an echidna, which did run away, but it's really about the koalas. If you're driving the Great Ocean Road it's well worth a detour and a couple of hours of your time.

What a fabulous walk this is and that is what you should make it a walk not a drive. Parking is easy by the Kaloa cafe. The road to walk along is Grey River Road which is on the opposite side of the road to the car park. Initially there is a lot of bird life and the parrots were really on form the day of our visit and were landing on peoples' heads.......We saw about 35 koalas on our walk but we walked a long way and as is often the case the further you walked the fewer the tourists. People come in bus loads and walk for the first couple of hundred metres and go back to their bus. We saw far more koalas the further and higher up the road we walked.Fabulous activity.

We saw one koala just as we were about to give up. Not sure if we were walking in the wrong place! May do the great ocean road again so we will come back and hopefully see a lot more

This is a great place top so along the great open road, as you can see koala's in the trees in the wild, and there are king parrots flying everywhere and eating from people hands. Pretty cool stuff.
