We could see Melbourne city, and that's pretty amazing!Really nice to visit, easy to access.Nice lookouts. To be included in a tour in the Macedon Ranges!

We took our visitors here for the day as being only an hours drive from where we live. Apart from being a lovely drive the view and park area created at the top of Mt Macedon is stunning. The huge memorial cross stands majestically at the end of an easily managed walk and bordered by rhododendrons. You can take a picnic or have a nice lunch at the cafe. There are also interesting knick knacks for sale there. We carried on back down the hill settling on the Macedon Hotel for lunch, they had a lunch special for $16 which included a drink, very enjoyable.

Garden was very neat & spaciousHost was cheerful & invitingWe were looking for accommodation following our vintage cycle ride to Hanging Rock. The B&B was close to Mt Macedon if we chose to visit, however we had visited that several weeks ago. We thoroughly enjoyed our short drive to Mt Macedon Hotel for our Valentines Day dinner out on the verandah,

Mount Macedon is simply stunning. The views you will see from the Memorial Cross and the Camels Hump are breathtaking. People open their amazing gardens to the Public in the Spring, which is well worth a look. Just driving around the windy roads of mount Macedon is relaxing. Don't forget to put your car window down as the smell of the trees will instantly invigorate you.

Having lived in Melbourne all my life until today I had never visited Mount Macedon. What a pleasant surprise. Once you turn off the freeway and start the drive to Mount Macedon it is a really delightful trip with tranquil country side. Entering Macedon itself is a bit like a step back in time. No hustle and bustle just a nice relaxed atmosphere with lovely gardens and parksThe view from the Memorial Cross at the top down on the surrounding countryside is wonderful and well worth the trip alone. Hanging Rock National Park is only a short distance away but be prepared for a $10 entrance fee. Overall a really nice day trip from Melbourne.Stop at the quaint Mount Macedon Trading Post for an enjoyable inexpensive light meal.

I must say that I probably didn't spend a huge amount of time here because when I hiked from the railway station up to the top of Mount Macedon, it was only the last part of my trek where I actually entered the park. I can't really say that this is any different from the many other national parks scattered throughout Australia, however the main reason that I went up here was to see the Memorial Cross (which commemorates people who died in war). Like many of the national parks I have visited there is a multitude of walks throughout the forest, however when I was there the one walk that I wanted to do (the one that took me back down the mountain) was closed off because they were burning away the undergrowth to attempt to prevent bushfires. There is a tea house, and a picnic ground, at the top of Mount Macedon (as well as antennas and an historical survey cairn – if that is your thing), though the tea house is pretty ordinary.

Beware of bushfires!Beware of irresponsible council!Beware of hoons whom the local police turn a blind eye to!Beware of dirt bikes who turn residential streets and every nature reserve into racing circuits especially on weekends!Beware of residents who insists on burning wet refuse and smoking the area up!Stay far away from the "local" mount macedon realestate agent! Conmen!!!If you have children stay away! The air is full of pollen, smoke or dust most of the year!

We started by doing the Memorial Cross, and thought that on the way back to the main road we would stop off and do the short (500m) walk up to Camel's Hump. We were not disappointed! It is a bit of a walk up hill, but the view is well worth it at the end. The lookout gives unobstructed views over to Hanging Rock (and yes, you will be higher than Hanging Rock so you look down to it). http://www.mountmacedon.org.au/places/camels-hump

Beautiful yet tough hike, took us 5 hours to do the circuit. DIdnt see much people during the hike and felt like we were in a separate world. Do it if you like hiking and a challenge. Some rock scrambling involved but not too frightening even for someone like me who has a fear for heights.

It's a short walk from the carpark to the Cross and lookout. Well worth it. We were there at dusk and a light came on lighting the cross as the sun set. Very beautiful.

A trip to Macedon is not complete without visiting the Memorial Cross atop the mountain. The views are spectacular and the story behind the cross fascinating. So much history in the area, a must see

If you can't get there late April for the autumn colour, look up open gardens scheme to see if any of the private gardens are open for a day to the public. Mt Macedon is cooler than Melbourne and there are many nice walks. On a clear day there are views across to Hanging Rock and the pastoral plains

Olive James of Macedon is just a glorified pub however Sitka Cafe was cute and a nice breakfast! Not much of a town Woodend is larger and more cafe's and stores.

Open Gardens lovely, Woodend cafes and shops were unique and worth the visit. Not much to see in Macedon Town itself but Mount Macedon and the views were lovely.

Just 45 minutes drive from Melbourne is the beautiful "Mount Macedon" at the western end of the Macedon Ranges. We were travelling over the mount to visit Hanging Rock but decided to take time to drive thru the townships of Macedon and Mt Macedon with their craft and coffee shops then wind our way up the mountain to the memorial cross at the top. The drive is picturesque thru majestic mountain scenery and many stately homes. Gardens are open to the public on many spring days and there are a variety of picnic grounds and walking tracks. Parking outside the tea rooms, you must take the short walk to the memorial cross and look-out which at 3000 feet above sea-level gives spectacular views on a clear day including Melbourne in the distance. Take in the crisp, fresh mountain air on the way back to the tea rooms and carpark.
