Beautiful blue waters. 2ish hours away from CBD. There's a lot to do around the area, water sports, snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming at the beaches, lookouts, camping etc.
Loved the atmosphere of this beach town, the beach is really nice although there isn't any waves to actually surf. Great beach to visit which is not far away from Melbourne CBD about one hour drive.
We drove here after a morning at the Peninsula Hot Springs and after a lovely healthy lunch at the Raw on Rye Tea House we easily found a parking spot and walked along the gorgeous beach finding a shady spot under the trees for a rest. This is a gorgeous region with miles of white sandy beaches and the Rye beach shops and cafes are an added attraction. You could get used to this lifestyle !
Travel away from the peer, after you've walked it of course, for more space away from all the travellers.
This is a great beach. Good parking and a lovely place to walk along with the kids and the dogs. Kids can play here, easily and safely, and you can always find a nice tree to sit under a have a bite to eat. A lovely place to go on your mornington peninsula escapade.
This place hasn't changed much since the 70's. Still the caravan parks along the beach, and cheap cafes on the roadside opposite. We stopped in town and walked across the road, through a caravan park to get to the beach. Couldn't find a picnic table so we sat under a tree to eat our snack and fed a few seagulls. The beach is nice but really nothing special to recommend it... just like many other beaches along the peninsular. Driving back I noticed that the dunes behind the beach in Rosebud were more heavily wooded, which I would prefer.
We spent some time at Rye Beach and just took a spot where we could park the car. We liked the beach for its long shallowness allow the kids to play in the water at a depth they liked. There was also a considerable amount of water sports (jet skis, sailing etc.) but this was farther out and did not impact the kids playing. There was a lot of sand and very little maritime life.Food and Bathroom facilities in the nearby businesses (not at the beach).
Such a beautiful beach. The waters are so blue and there is a nice long stretch of beach that is excellent for swimming in!
We stayed near St Andrews Beach, but used Rye as our base on the Mornington Peninsula...it is a one street townette-two petrol stations, a superb Woolworths Supermarket,at least three booze shops, and most exciting-fabulous shops of character. QUIRKY-The OP shop and Ya Ya's! The OP Charity shop has the most amazing array of non-charity shop things...fabulous service from people who did not seem to mind my funny Xmas hat...SINFUL Then we stumbled to YaYa's shop-a Greek owned multi-something or other-baclava from a counter at the entrance, and then a market full of arts and crafts...fascinating stuff...and no pressure to buy-just wander around-lovely retro things...DELICIOUS..the surfers...what is it about sunlight outdoor sport and drop deeded gorgeous men...I could'nt have them, so instead went to eat at the Food Vans pop the sea....most expensive Diet coke, but the food from all of the vans was excellent....even a Nando's...but my favourite...the Greek Souvlaki.... Oh...the sand is great -the water crisp -and the parking easy...
Loved Rye beach! It wasn't busy and the sand and water was beautiful! Very clean and relaxing! Schoolies was happening at the same time and this didn't detract. Some lovely beach huts that take great pictures.
Lovely place to visit, beach is lovely to walk upon, the shops around are great with NICE coffee for a early morning treat. We did stay at the Aquabelle Apartments, and Rye beach is right across the road. The old timers were great for a chat in the morning. After growing up at Mt Martha, I haven't visited for over 25 yrs, good to get back for a relaxing long weekend.
Great clean beach, lovely pier, well used by walkers and cyclists on the trails. Just across the road from town and handy to amenities
Part of mornington peninsula, which is as beautiful and fantastic as any brochure has described. Better book a room ahead so you can have a more relaxing trip.Tip: just travel along the napean road to find more quieter beaches. Just pull off the road when you see one. There is always plenty of parking even in peak season.Lots of places to eat and shop.
