Four adults two children spent four nights at Baw Baw in Kelly's Lodge (see review). Four days were spent walking various tracks near and further away. The Summit Track was an easy but really lovely morning walk. The track to Mt St Gwinear was a much longer but beautiful walk. Our favorite walk was further afield Mushroom Rocks. Stunning flora on the way to the rocks. The drive to Baw Baw at this time of year was stunning. I have never been to Baw Baw in winter but as a late Spring/early Summer trip it was a delight. The top of the mountain was beautifully quiet ....hardly anyone around..some would hate that but not us!

This was our first time seeing snow and it was definitely a good experience for us and the kids. The resort was well organised - the hire shop was very helpful and easy to deal with. We spent $197 to hire 3x ski jackets, pants and 2x toboggans. There are a few choices of restaurants from cheaper to more expensive. We bought our parking online so it saved $5 a day, all up it was $70 for parking over 2 days. The road is quite windy to get there though, our son had quite bad car sickness so we had a bucket and we had to pull over a few times! We tried the less windy way, unsealed South Face Road, but found it didn't help that much with my son's car sickness and it was about 20 minutes longer. We didn't stay at the resort itself because it was quite expensive, and for the more cheaper accommodation, all guests had to be 18+ as it was above the pub so we couldn't stay there with the kids. We stayed in Neerim South, which took us over an hour each way. We went toboganning - the area was good and well laid out. We had a great time.

Was a good day of fun on the toboggan with my children. Great food at the restaurant and beautiful scenic with background alpines and the cottage resorts. Highly recommend for families for a cosy white weekend.

Travel here from the mornington peninsula. A family of beginners out for a snow day and first experience. Entry, hire and lesson costs were reasonable. Staff taking lessons friendly. There was ample snow. Not a huge selection of pubs or restaurants, however for a family of beginners I would definitely recommend as the cost is a lot cheaper than some other resorts and at our level there was certainly enough facilities.

Getting here was easy using the south face road, a days skiing at the weekend was $50 Parking, $50 ski hire, $75 lift pass, cheeper during midweek, the lifts were well run and staff helpful and freindly.

Great day with the kids having their first snow experience. Advise for small children who haven't seen snow to go early in the season to avoid lots of people.

Just returned from a week on the mountain with ten primary aged students and three teenagers. What a great place! Other than the drive up, which can be a bit hairy, the village was easily accessible, parking was effortless and getting to our lodge a breeze. Our kids had lessons at the ski school and after three days all were up and skiing independently. Mount Baw Baw Ski Hire kitted us out with what ever we required and also assisted with loads of advice which made our time in the snow so much more enjoyable. The village itself is small and easy to get around by foot. Kids loved the toboggan park which although small, allowed us a number of hours of fun. Our teenagers had a lovely time snow boarding and as everything was so close they had the confidence to wander off by themselves and the adults also felt sure that they would be safe. All staff on the mountain were generous of giving their time to assist us and also stopped and just chatted with our kids, this being from the bus driver to the ski patrol. The runs are quite small and I think that if your were an accomplished skier or boarder you may find yourself looking for more challenges after a week, but do not let that put you off as this really is an amazing place to visit!

We visited Mount Baw Baw in the school hols with the kids. We had awesome weather on the day we went, about 15 degrees & sunny. There was loads of snow, the kids managed to toboggan for ages, built a snowman, threw some snowballs & had a great day. We even saw santa who was there visiting when we got there, the kids had a picture taken with him too. We hired our chains & toboggans in Noojee, was a really cheap day out, $30 for chains & toboggans then $36 or so for the parking for the day. We ate at the small cafe there, managed to feed the 4 of us for $50 which was as much as it would have cost at one of the big chain fast food places, so very happy with the whole experience. Great weather, great snow, great value, the ski runs also look good to learn on, the kids are keen to go back & learn how to ski next time.

This was our fourth time back at Mt Baw Baw for the snow. I think the thing that stands out most is the friendliness and helpfulness of all the mountain staff. I also like the way the village and runs are so easy to get around, whether on foot or on skis/snowboard, which means that the kids (9 and 13) can have a greater degree of independence.

I had been to Mt Baw Baw many years ago; my wife had not: in fact, she had never experienced snow before.It was a most enjoyable few hours with the beautiful Australian snow gums and taking photographs of snowmen that others had made fun.The one common room we came across to have our packed lunch in was quite crowded and very basis, but at least the rubbish bin was emptied while we ate and drank.Staff were OK but the area was very busy due to excellent snow the night before. On a weekday it would be far quieter.The previous year (2013) had seen little snow so the good falls (which have continued post our visit) are by no means guaranteed, but very welcome.

this place is fantastic, especially if you like a less commercial friendly experience. I love the other mountains as much as the next person but this one is a really special place that is a must visit!

Wanting to visit snow in July? Then mt. Baw baw would be an interesting find. 4 hours drive from Melbourne, it is a winter wonderland in July.Things to note:1. Gear up with snow gear2. Check for snow fall before the scheduled trip, too small of a snow fall will leave you stuck with the tobogans.3. Bring food, food us quite expensive on resort restaurants4. Shoes and snow gears available for rent but a little expensive5. Bring water, the walking would surely make you thirsty

Went during the week (Tuesday to Thursday) for our first snow trip.Went up from Melbourne via V-line and Mountaintop experience taxi. Was straightforward getting there although the road up is fairly winding.Tried snowboarding for the first time. Had a nice instructor but only got one hour instead of the two hours because there was no one else with us for the lesson (our shared lesson became a private lesson)The staff at the ski/snowboard hire place weren't very helpful to beginners; didn't offer any helpful advice or even hire out the snowboards that were meant for beginners (our snowboard bindings were quite a hassle to put on and off and being a beginner, it was something we had to adjust quite regularly). The mountain itself is fairly small; there were only one or two runs open when we went due to limited snow. One good thing was that it was not very busy; we had plenty of room to snowboard/slip over and not crash into someone else.The place itself is very nice although this season it was fairly up and down in terms of snow. When we went there was a light dusting of snow but the weather was much like Melbourne, sunny one moment, raining the next. In terms of planning your trip there, if you plan well in advance you may miss out on snow if you happen to be unlucky with the weather. The place itself had a few discount packages for mid-week travel which may interest some. Food in general was expensive but nice. Our accommodation at the Alpine flashpackers was good value for money; the room was small but had everything we needed.I would advise people come for day trips when the snow is present. If you do book in advance, just be cautious. There is no "snow guarantee"

I have just returned from a first time day trip on the 8/08/13 at Mt Baw Baw in Victoria with my family . The trip was great all the way to Noojee with beautiful green hills of country Victoria , From Noojee for about 25km the road is very narrow all the way up to Mt Baw Baw Village and with lots of serpentines . If you have kids in the car who who are very sensitive and get car sick, try to go somewhere else. You can hire chains from Noojee for about 20$ and from an extra of 5 $ you can hire a toboggan . When you reach The Village will cost you about 37$ ONLY if you pay online the Permit, the most expensive car park :(..... There are opened a bistro and a small restaurant where you can eat proper food that is expensive too.They also have a General Store where you can purchase other things. All the buildings and facilities look very old and outdated. No wonder why there are not many tourists there. Do not relay on your GPS this might going to take you on unpaved roads. The only road to get you there from Noojee is Mt. Baw Baw Tourist Road.On the good side of our trip the snow we had was about 14-20cm , I had a very nice time playing in the snow with my daughter .
