Delicious olives and a variety of olive oils to sample. Perfect partner with the Calico Town Winery. Very friendly staff, delicious lunch platters and homemade cakes. Enjoyed the classic motorbike show on the Sunday of our visit

Visited winery and cafe for lunch on wet Saturday. Quirky decor, eg bikes up trees, small statue of Queen Elizabeth waving. Service great - lady with dry sense of humour funny. 5 of us shared local produce platter, with 2 also having soup (pea/ham and kumara). Food delicious and complimented by bottles of their boutique wine. Wonderful day catching up with old friends and family in surroundings characterised by interesting ambience and enjoyable variety of taped music. Highly recommended. Went to many great Rutherglen wineries, with Wicked Virgin being a standout.

We visited Wicked Virgin on a winery tour with family. Similar to other reviews, we were met (note not greeted) by a horribly unfriendly woman at the cellar door. She was rude, aggressive and couldn't have been less interested in our presence or in talking about what they had on offer. We strongly recommend that you avoid this business. It was a sour note in an otherwise outstanding weekend in Rutherglen.

We trekked the 700m up hill from the rail trail cycle path with the promise of lunch, cakes, coffee and even beer. We were greeted by a beautiful view of the olive grove and house with tranquil outdoor seating. The lady behind the counter could not have been less welcoming. We managed to buy some soft drink and taste some olive oil (which was delicious) but getting that was like blood out of a stone. We asked about food and were answered by a stony face. We left with a bottle of olive oil really disappointed.

We had a wonderful lunch. The Hot Pot Cassoulet was tender and rich with flavours. Accompanied by glass of house Shiraz. You couldn't go wrong... Service was impeccable and very friendly. Cheese plater with walnuts and dry apricots offered three types of cheese!!! Simple but it worked. We also bought olive oil at the cellar door...

A lovely outlook but a little too rustic. Food was average. Could probably make the outside area a little more attractive because the outlook is quite nice.

Wonderful selection of fresh oils for tasting in a beautiful earth walled building. Remnants of the old gold mining pit heads nearby.

We having been stopping here for lunch, coffees and cakes for years and it is undeniably our favourite place to relax and enjoy great food. Laurel is an amazing cook. When you order an antipasto platter many of the treats, such as, roulade, frittata, relishes, etc are made by Laurel. Her homemade soups are delicious and cater for coeliacs too. There are delicious hot pots and Tasty salads to choose from as well. We love their 2006 Shiraz. It is a must taste before it all runs out. And then there are Laurel's homemade cakes. If you get the chance to try her lemon and ricotta cake, don't hold back. Then there is her lovely baked cheesecake and yummy date, chocolate and almond torte (rest for coeliac so too). If the sun is shining the outdoor area is charming, with an amazing view over the olive groves, but if it is cold, it is always toasty by the fire. And I haven't even mentioned their olives ....We can't wait for their B&B to be ready. The plans sound amazing, with all creature comforts, including an upstairs balcony to soak up the sunshine and views. When next in Rutherglen, drop in and share a laugh. We love Laurel's great dry sense of humour and we love that we are always made to feel very welcome. Can't wait to go back.

We had a lunch organise for 20 girls, and had the tables arrange for of us to be sitted altogether, the atmosphere was friendly and very enjoyable. Food was a good size very reasonable price.. The owners were on hand to discuss the menus and serve the meals and wines, try the olives. The outside atmosphere with the gardens and the area would be lovely for a wedding and functions. Inside area would also cater for large functions. Just 2 km outside Rutherglen. The lady who owns it let us keep our car overnight, which was great and it was very much appreciated.

We popped in here on a very cold day and had a delicious soup. Needed to share a table with another couple but that was fine, and would definitely call in again.

Kept driving past hoping there would be a sign that said 'open' but I guess being a small operation they were shut as they were busy, but we really wanted to drop in and grab some oil and wine like we did on a previous trip, oh well...

We enjoyed some fantastic olives , were given quite a selection to choose from and loved the olive oil selection as well. The lady who owns it is a really interesting person and has a very dry wit. If you don't have a sense of humour you may not enjoy her company but we loved hearing about her management of the trees, the people who pick the olives and general history of the area.

We were finally offered some tastings but the owner was not in a happy mood. I would try the olive place called Gooramadda Olives first

After visiting several larger wineries in the area, we came across this hidden gem just on the outskirts of town. What an interesting place with the last remaining remnants of the gold era. The homemade mud brick cellar door and surrounds were a delight. All their tastings are from products grown and made on site. The lady of the house with her quick wit and wicked sense of humour was a delight to engage with. We found out so much about the local history from her. She entertained us for ages. We had just the best time, coffee and light meal and left with a range of interesting goodies. A real hidden gem!
