I had a blast! The wineries, olives, food, shopping... all within a laid-back setting - well, I will certainly be back!

most of the town appears to be for sale. very sad. Restaurants and cafes are closed down. It was once my favorite place to visit but alas no more.

Sad to see so many empty shops but still a nice town. Close to local wineries so makes a great base to stay.

A lovely relaxing little town from which to prowl the local wineries. Some good eateries and nice little shops to pass the time.

The main reason for a trip to Rutherglen is to sample the many quality wineries of the region, with a particular speciality of fortifieds.

We loved the country atmosphere and the locals are a friendly bunch. Great stop for exploring the local wineries of which there are many.

Rutherglen is a lovely little town in north east Victoria that is central to the local wine industry. Most renowned for its red wines.Very cold in winter and can be very hot in summer.Well serviced with hotels and motels. Also a couple of restaurants.Clubs are nearby, across the river in NSW.

We stayed at the Rutherglen Caravan Park, a older and quite park , but well worth turning off the main street of Rutherglen. Having stayed in newer and larger parks, we found right from first checking in that we were made most welcome and told about the park and Happy Hour , which starts at 4:30 pm and is a great way to meet other caravaners. Dennis , the owner, also told us where to go for a good meal. We would stay again.

We went to Rutherglen for the Winery Walkabout and really enjoyed our time in this lovely little town. We stayed at the Cuddle Doon B&B which was just perfect. The 3 bedroom home is fitted out with everything you need and was very comfortable. Beryl and John were very helpful. Loved the huge market on Sunday with over 300 great stalls.

Had a great weekend here; nice places to visit and eat. The Farmers Markets on the second Sunday of the month in the village 'square' were an absolute treat and had some real finds; Boosey Creek Cheeses, Belongawog Nashi with their Emperors Choice Nashi Juice and Green Temple Garlic with their jellies and pickled garlic especially. Renaissance chocolates left the so-called chocolate factory for dead!

Fantastic wine region for all tastes. Close proximity to accommodation, wineries and restaurants. Three days will suffice for this area to capture everything.

Walk down the main street and you get the feeling the locals have a lot of pride in their town as there has been a real effort to maintain the historic look and a welcoming feeling for visitors. The location is great for the many wineries in the area and there are plenty of options for eating as well as accommodation. Recommend the Wine Village Motor Inn located in the main street. We had not visited Rutherglen for six years but will be back soon as we loved our stay and the weather was fantastic, thankfully we missed the heat.

Rutherglen is central to many exquisite wineries and other small Victorian towns. The Rutherglen Information Centre highlights many of the styles of wines and fortified wines that the region has to offer. There are a number of wine tours that can be used to get between wineries, but to be fair, don't expect to get through more than two or three if you have only booked a three hour tour. Normally, the town has an exciting selection of eateries to choose from. However, this time of year it was very slow and many places were shut. Nevertheless, a day trip around can take you to so many other nice towns with character, that Rutherglen seems to be a perfect place to stay.

Great area. Welcoming wineries & good restaurants. Nice walks too. Easy walking distance through town. Pubs & restaurants which allow dogs in their gardens made dining an easy experience.
