rutherglen winery tour

I was so excited to find Rutherglen cellar door in Rutherglen, I knew I liked their wines but I'm now an huge fan of their Durif. You have to try it! If you like a deep rich red this is for you, when they say distinctive blackberry, blueberry,chocolate notes your not left guessing what that means YUM!

Nancy was friendly and right on time. She gave us advice about the winerys, had a chat and also ensured we had a safe and easy trip. We chose all our own winerys but she was very knowledgable about all of them. Most impressively, she missed out on making the sandwiches for the Lawn Bowls Club which she no doubt had to pay for later with some grumbles! She left us to our own devices at each location and waited patiently for us until we were done.

Kids generally don't like traipsing around wineries, this provided a difference. Visited 5 wineries in 2 1/4 hours. Alister was a great host and at times pointed out activities for the kids. We all enjoyed the adventure!

Recommend to anyone whether you like wine or not - best day and I will definitely be returning in 2013!!!

The website said they required 4 people to do the tour but when we phoned and we were the only ones booked they still went ahead which we were very happy about. Hans picked us up at 1.30 pm. We went to the wineries that we wanted to go to as well as the Chocolate factory in Corowa. All Saints winery is worth a look. The actual winery is inside a castle built in the 1800s. It has a huge driveway with beautiful trees lining both sides. It includes the winery, a restaurant and a cheese factory. The grounds are beautiful and they include heritage listed huts that were used by the people who worked on the winery in the 1800s.

We went on a full day tour, visiting 6 wineries. Hans and Nancy (the owners) offered to either go to wineries of our choice, or they would suggest some based on what we liked. We ended up having a mix of our choice plus their recommendations and had a great day out. A lovely touch was some biscuits, cheese and antipasto dip included with the tour. They also suggested a lovely place to have lunch (Pickled Sisters at Cofield's winery).
