The thing I liked about this place was the variety of things you can buy, but it was still quite expensive. You also had a lot of the same stoles (let's say for fake dvd's). You can also go on a chairlift or boat ride.
What an amazing venue... I thought the weekend market at Queen Victoria Markets was good but the Caribbean Gardens and Market has a much more diverse spread of items on offer from underwear and socks to computers and toys, vegetables and fruit to tools and jewellery. We spent a great time there wandering the aisles and listening to the banter coming from some of the stall holders (some of whom could do with lifting the volume a tad while others could do with lowering it and adding new words to their vocabulary!) - we only went to visit the market so cannot comment on the rides and gardens themselves.
I was impressed with the fresh flowers & produce brought here though didn't really find much else I was interested in buying. Outside the market my children loved the jumping castles, playgrounds and other activities.
it serves a niche market and has been there for years, but its daggy, and run down, you can pick up the odd bargain, but its no big day out
You might want to pick your day and find out if the place is very crowded or not. However, even if we've been told that it was actually full, we still had plenty of fun. The surface is great, rolls very well. the games every now and then make sure you actually have a break, catch your breath and have some water... Then the fast skaters can come in and run at full speed, giving high-fives to the crowd. I might upgrade my skates to a decent pair of blades, to make sure I can actually enjoy the surface to its full potential.Very nice couple of hours anyway. +1 for the fact that the music was NOT too loud as it usually is, in such places.
I love that the outside of this place has been well kept but really hasn't changed much since I visited as a child 30 years ago! A nice family day out. Stalls vary from cheap cheap stuff (lots of these stalls) to hand crafted and the food, the food is really well priced so we find a trip tends to keep all us happy.
Good family fun with bargain shopping, food and entertainment. I guess it is a cool place to do some daily needs shopping, food and veggies and bargain shopping with some family fun. Since it is closer to me, did not need to go far away to take my kid for some fun and play
I have lived about 3 kms from Carribbean gardens for a couple of decades, occasionally visiting the market area to purchase something and leaving quickly. Today we took the grandkids as a destination, not to shop but to enjoy the rides and activities. Expecting to be underwhelmed I was surprised at how much has changed since my kids were little. The train, jungle boat ride and chair lift were fun and just fine for little ones. Lots of food varieties, rubbish bins everywhere, BBQ facilities, lots of parking, clean toilets, and a nice vibe. I much prefer the actual market to the victoria which is all about cheap souvenirs. I was impressed with the new shops inside like the deli and bakeries. As a senior entry was $1 for me, $2.50 for others. Rides were $10 for trampoline harness jumping, $10 for jumping castle and $7 for boat ride. Made the day somewhat expensive but cheaper than a local carnival and more fun.
I was a bit disappointed with this is was filled with junk from China so you can imagine the quality was pretty poor. I will not be going back + $2.50 to get in for nothing.
At first I was skeptical this was going to be like Victoria Market full of souvenirs, but I discovered I really liked this place. It was full of clothing, herbs and plants, crockery, fruit and grocery stalls. We found the prices much cheaper than the other more well known markets. Things were very affordable. Herb plants at 4 for $10. We bought little seedlings at 6 for $10. We grabbed tops at $15 per piece. It was good fun walking around to examine the wares and you are not bombarded by souvenir stalls everywhere. We find people here really friendly and it makes all the difference. We find they are honest too, not trying to scratch another buck off you... um maybe the Vietnamese ladies selling tops and jackets. You might have to negotiate them down a bit.
The range of items was limited and mostly junk from computer parts to trinkets to fake dvd's. All times were overpriced and haggling was shunned upon
Carribean gardens is one of those places that has always been there, every Sunday there were queues to get in to buy or sell someone's trash or treasure. In fact my brother and I got in the line at 3am on a couple of accasions to sell out boot full of "stuff". It is still worth a visit, although most of the stuff seems to be retailers selling not quite right kitcsh. It is a pleasant way to spend a Sunday morning, and there is always something that you need, whether it be a toothbrush, or a blank dvd, its probably somewhere on a stall.
we went on a hot windy sunday.....heaps off people.we din not bring any food or drinks with us big mistake...the food was junk expensive and cold.....as for the market its getting worst copies off everything.....didnt buy anything....as for the toilets dont use the one in the so called restaurant.....
After an absence of about 6 years I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of stalls on a Sunday at Carribean Gardens Market. Of course being a weekend it was certainly busy but I had no trouble getting a park close to the main shed. Sadly I was on the lookout for computer parts and was disappointed to find only 2 spare parts guys at the top end of the shed. No shortage of iphone fixers & second hand computers though. I easily spent 2 hours wandering & browsing in the general merchandise area and left with a bundle of shopping bags. I have fond memories of taking my children there when they were young and would love to visit again with my grandchildren on the school holidays to take advantage of the rest of the park and its amusements and facilities.
Loads of variety and bargains to be bought. Get there early to get a park. Great vege section and computer support. Most shoppers will not be disappointed!
